Pisces has the unique ability of reflectivity. They pick up on the energies around them, absorb them, and in many cases reflect back what they have received. This ability can be very difficult to deal with because of the empathic nature of Pisces. Pisces often pick up on things that are not their own. Furthermore, because Pisces lacks boundaries they are more likely to take on the energies of other people which can lead to everything from reflection to projection. There is an important reason why Pisces is known as the cosmic mirror, and it has a lot to do with Pisces’ understanding that you are everything and everything is you.
Pisces As The Cosmic Mirror Just imagine yourself standing in front of a mirror. What exactly do you see? Do you see yourself for what you really are, or do you see or imagine yourself as something different? Now, just imagine that you are a walking mirror everywhere you go, and when other people look at you they see a reflection of themselves. Again, ask yourself what exactly will be reflected back if you encountered this human mirror.
Well, Pisces is the zodiac sign that is known as the cosmic mirror. One of Pisces’ greatest characteristics and greatest faults is its lack of boundaries which give them the ability to absorb and reflect the energy of others.
Obviously, having this trait is not all sunshine and rainbows. Since everything is energetic, the energy that Pisces picks up is what is mirrored back to others. When you look in the mirror when alone, you can create any idea of how you want to appear to yourself. However, when you encounter someone that has the ability to detect your energy and reflect it back to you, it’s not as easy to be self-deluded about who you really are. It is for this reason that being a cosmic mirror is not all that it’s all cracked up to be.
I Am You; You Are Me; We Are All One In the realm of Pisces and its ruler Neptune, there is no separation. We are all one. We all come from the same Source, and we will all go back to that very Source. Regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, and other factors that create the illusion of separateness, Pisces understands that at the very end of it all, we are all just energy cloaked in different human forms.
Since Pisces genuinely understands that separateness is an illusion, that’s why they’re able to be a mirror as they know that they are already tapped into everyone’s energy. Some would say that Pisces is a living, breathing, walking barometer of the energy that is in its environment. It is for this reason that many Pisceans are careful about the type of energy that they associate with. Also, it could be said that the energy that Pisces is associated with is also a reflection of who they are. Thus, it’s important that Pisces be a bit more mindful than any other zodiac sign about who they are dealing with since they are absorbers and one of the most empathic signs of the zodiac.
A Reflection of Energy Reflecting energy is not all that it’s made out to be. When the reflections are great, there’s no problem. However, when the reflections are not so grand that’s when Pisces really tends to have issues, especially with others. What we encounter energetically is part of our own experience. There’s lots of talk about the external being a reflection of the internal which is definitely true. However, when you throw in Pisces as the cosmic mirror what happens is that everything that is internal is outwardly reflected and then shown back to the person in human form.
Now, this can be tough to deal with, especially if we are in a place where we aren’t ready to address what we are dealing with internally. No one really likes having someone around that’s a reflection of who they are energetically, especially if we are not in a great place. It can kick up a lot of unresolved issues that many people push against and understandably so. It can also lead to something that Pisces energy is very aware of… projection.
Projecting To Scapegoat Have you ever experienced someone who places all their issues, problems, and negative character traits onto you? This is projection. In psychology, projection is defined as a defense mechanism that people use to avoid dealing with their own issues and problems. Instead of being accountable and responsible for themselves, those who project place their unaddressed issues and problems onto others. The issue with projection is that it doesn’t solve anything for the person who’s holding those issues, and it also places concerns and issues onto others unfairly.
How does projection relate to Pisces? Well, when you’re a mirror such as Pisces, you’re able to see what others truly are. Now, if Pisces is reflecting back to others, if people don’t like the reflection, they are likely to project their ills onto the mirror. Same for Pisces where if they are holding onto unhealed and unaddressed issues, they can just as easily project onto others. It’s important to remember that Pisces is two fish. It is a mutable sign that represents duality. So, they are capable of being the saint as well as the sinner.
When people project onto others, they are avoiding the opportunity to truly own their own energy. Instead, the projection leads to scapegoating which is making other people the dumpster for everything that you don’t want to deal with. This is not responsible. This is not accountable, and ultimately it doesn’t help the person projecting nor does it help the person that is being dumped on.
Who Are You, Really? Looking into a mirror gives us an opportunity to face ourselves. The only difference is that when you have human mirrors walking around, it can be really difficult to deal with that. These human mirrors that are deeply tapped into energy pick up on the best and the worst. Energetically, people respond to these human mirrors in Piscean form by either acknowledging the energy that they put out or choosing to project. Sometimes we meet people and something about them irritates us. Is it because they’ve really done something wrong, or is this a projection of something within us that feels insecure?
For example, let’s say Woman A feels insecure about her looks. Another woman, let’s call her Woman B, comes into a shared space with Woman A. Woman A perceives that Woman B is more attractive than her. Instead of honoring that this other woman is attractive, Woman A begins to find fault in everything that Woman B is. Woman A feels irked and agitated by Woman B even though Woman B has done nothing to her.
Here’s where the energy of the mirror takes place. For Woman A, is her issue really with Woman B, or is it with herself? What is it that is making Woman A project such negativity onto Woman B? This is where mirror energy asks us to reflect on the energy we are giving out so that we can do work on ourselves. You can’t fix what you don’t acknowledge which is why mirroring energy is very effective yet quite uncomfortable in getting us to see who we truly are at our core. If we don’t like what we see through reflection, that’s not the other person’s fault. It is our own to reconcile and make peace accordingly.
Ultimately, mirroring energy happens to everyone. However, Pisces, being the nebulous, empathic sign that it is, is more likely to utilize this energy both consciously or subconsciously. Due to their innate understanding that there are no boundaries and that we are all energy interacting. Whether you’re dealing with attraction or repulsion, the reflection of energy back to you is a call not to become upset or defensive, but to really acknowledge who you are for better or for worse. By doing so, you put yourself on the path of accountability and responsibility for the energy that you hold and emit. This is another lesson on how energy is used through reflection courtesy of Pisces.
