We are officially in Aquarius season, and the general astrological energies have shifted from grounded, practical Capricorn and its ruler Saturn to the more rebellious and nontraditional energy of Aquarius and its ruler Uranus. To better understand Aquarius, you first have to understand Uranus. Uranus energy is all about revolutionary leaps of consciousness that are obtained by going where “no man has gone before.” It’s all about going beyond the status quo and being willing to move differently from the norm.
As the humanitarian sign of the zodiac, Aquarius has a special understanding that while we may be different in race, color, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation, and much more, we all have the common bond of being part of the human race. Ultimately, due to the electric nature of Uranus energy, Aquarius has an interesting and unique path of showing everyone how to balance standing in one’s individuality, owning one’s freedom, and knowing when to rebel against the commonplace in order to advance the self and everyone else.
Aquarius & The Uranus RulershipAquarius’s planetary ruler is Uranus. If you know anything about Uranus, it is a unique planet especially when you consider how it orbits the sun. Along with the other planets including earth, Uranus orbits around the sun. However, the major difference with Uranus is that it doesn’t move East to West like the other planets. Instead, Uranus orbits the sun from north to south.
The difference between Uranus’ orbit and all the other planets’ orbits can be compared to a group of kids who are expected to raise both hands in the air. However, Uranus decides to only raise one of their hands. It’s these little nuances of going against the grain that make Uranus energy different and some would even say chaotic at times.
Given that Uranus is the planetary ruler of Aquarius, those with Aquarius energy are called to step into their individuality while still functioning as part of the group. While Aquarius’s opposite sign Leo is the center of attention as represented by its planetary ruler the sun, Aquarius is different but still part of the group. Just like Uranus, it still orbits around the sun just like all the other planets. This understanding offers the balance that Aquarius has between wanting to be an individual and also wanting to be part of the group.
I Want To Be Me!
Many astrologers state that Aquarius energy lets their freak flag fly. This is the innate sense that Aquarius has of wanting to be themselves even if it sets them apart from others. Because of this, Aquarius is known as the eccentric of the zodiac. They are the ones who are different from what is considered normal for their particular culture, group, or overall society. It is important to remember that what is considered eccentric can vary. Nevertheless, Aquarius has an intense desire to be themselves fully because they understand that by embracing all of their quirks they will ultimately be able to connect to others who will embrace them for who they are.
I Want Everyone To Be Themselves
Similarly, Aquarius is only interested in people who have the guts to be themselves. If you are a nerd, Aquarius says embrace it. If you happen to enjoy anime and sci-fi, Aquarius says that’s cool. If you happen to be someone that sticks out because of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender, it doesn’t matter. Aquarius is cool with it all. In a world that wants everyone to conform and be the same, Aquarius appreciates people who have the ability to be themselves even if it means that the mainstream won’t particularly care for them.
In fact, these are the types of people who Aquarius tends to bond with most. These are the outliers, those on the fringe, the weirdos, and the peculiar. It is through other people embracing their quirks that allow Aquarius to know who is on the same page as them. These are the like-minded people whom Aquarius forms friendships and community with.
Bucking The Commonplace
Thus far it seems like Aquarius is pretty good energy that simply wants to be itself. Well, it is, but there is another side to the expression of Uranus energy. In an effort to embody all that they are, there are times when Aquarius causes disruptions.
This is where the chaotic and disruptive energy of Uranus reveals itself. While it may appear easy to go against the grain, it is not. Just think about the society that we currently live in and all of the rules and expectations that go with living in that society. Well, Uranus energy is propelled to push against those expectations. Sometimes Aquarius does it because they genuinely don’t feel the society they live in is reflective of who they are.
However, there are occasions when Aquarius can just be contrary for the sake of it. We’ve all known that person who goes out of their way to be different and set themselves apart from the rest whether this is in the way that they dress, act, or through the expression of beliefs. This energy becomes disruptive when Aquarius positions itself against the commonplace just to prove a point that actually leads to nowhere.
In the end, when Aquarius uses Uranus energy in this way, they get exactly what they want. They feel separate and out of place. The only issue with this is that innately Aquarius is still a part of society and seeks to belong. Unfortunately, acting contrarians only exclude them from the experience of community and humanity to which they desire to belong.
Chaos Or Innovation?
At some point, Aquarius understands that it must use its uniquely different Uranus energy in a controlled, fixed manner. A practical example of this is electricity, which happens to be ruled by Uranus. Electricity has tons of benefits. It provides light, and it supplies energy to our electronics. However, electricity can also be quite dangerous when it is not controlled. The electricity that we use every day is grounded to ensure that we can turn on a light and not get shocked or use a hairdryer and not be electrocuted. The key here is ground electricity which is what a mature and conscious Aquarius understands about the use of Uranus energy.
Aquarius has the option of being a chaotic force that is always stirring up the pot seeking to create anarchy that basically leads to nothing revolutionary or positive for anyone. Then, there is the option of using this electric energy to bring awareness and increase consciousness to the self and others. It is the difference between turning on a light and being electrocuted and turning on a light that offers illumination and awareness. It’s the same energy…just used in a different manner.
When Aquarius is operating in the energy of using Uranus electricity to be a revolutionary innovator that is light years ahead of everyone else, they have the potential to bring mankind into greater expressions of itself. It is for this reason that Aquarius is also associated with science and technology. Just think of all the ways that these two fields have changed so much over our lifetimes. Consider the major advancements in technology that have greatly changed all of humanity. This is the effective evolutionary energy of Aquarius at hand.
Ultimately, Aquarius has an extraordinary mission here on planet Earth. They have been tasked with helping humanity realize that despite our differences we are still all connected, and we are at our best when we allow ourselves to be who we truly are. Also, if we are willing to move beyond the traditions and commonplace, there is the potential to experience life in a way that we could have never imagined both personally and collectively. As we are firmly in the Age of Aquarius, all of us, especially those of us with heavy Aquarius/Uranus energy, are called to take on the responsibility of handling Uranus energy in a manner that ensures that humanity is on a path to progression as opposed to leading us into a state of anarchy and chaos.
