Vacations are a joyful time, they say, making them feel happier. More than half add that their world feels larger after returning from a vacation. They feel more in touch with themselves after returning from a vacation than they did before they went.
Then there are even those who have had a revelation about some part of their lives while away on holiday. If that revelation includes your partner or family member, so much the better.
Oh yes, almost all those questioned in the poll want to go away again as soon as possible.
Romantic getaway
For those couples who are looking for a chance to reconnect, an escape from daily life in the form of a romantic getaway will help them a lot, says Erica Doyne, senior vice president for marketing and communications at AMResorts.
Should you choose a vacation at a resort that is all-inclusive all you will have to worry about is deciding whether to go to the pool or the beach, Doyne adds.
What to do together
Here are some suggestions on what you should do while on vacation together—whether it with a partner, a family member, or a friend—based on opinions expressed in a recent poll conducted by OnePoll for BeachBound.
• Try to eat all meals together in order to keep that bond alive. The same is true for relaxing and sightseeing; they are best done together. It is always more fun than traveling alone.
• Take as many photographs as you can to record memories of the trip. Those who have taken a number of pictures look back on them about five times a year.
If you and your partner sit down together regularly to go over your vacation by looking at the photographs it can help once more to revive the experience that brought you closer together.
Whether it be relaxing on a beach or organized experiences at a resort, you are bound to return from vacation with memories that will endure for a lifetime, says Dana Studebaker, vice president of marketing of consumer brands at Apple Leisure Group.
• Look at improving yourself or stepping away from your comfort zone while on vacation. You are more likely to be adventurous when you are holidaying with other people than when you are on your own.
Vacations were worthwhile
If stories of problems that people encountered on recent vacations are holding you back, take heart. Hurdles and problems that people faced going on vacation in the worst days of the pandemic appear to have eased considerably. In most cases they have gone away.
In a separate poll for Exodus Travel, eight out of 10 people said their recent vacations were worthwhile, even though some had to face hurdles as a result of COVID-19. In spite of difficulties that they encountered, however, they say they would happily do it again if they have the chance.
Part of us
To explore new places, to encounter other cultures, and experience the rugged beauty of nature is in our DNA, says Andy Crang, marketing director of Exodus Travel.
Movies, television, books and social media all were fine substitutes while travel was on hold, but the joy of traveling and the happiness that comes with it far outweigh any possible hiccoughs we encounter on the way, he adds.
For many of us discovering new adventures is a significant part of who we are, Crang adds.
If discovering those new adventures also helps to mends a rocky relationship, so much the better.
