The beginning of March means spring is on the horizon, but it also means that Dr. Seuss Day and Week are near. While March 2 is the day that is officially observed, the entire week is an opportunity to celebrate how transformative these books and characters were to our childhoods. It is likely that they were some of the first books you read on your own or had read to you, so there will always be a bit of nostalgia there.
Recognize Dr. Seuss Day and Week with some fun, yummy treats and dishes, sure to delight children young and old. Whether your favorite book involves Horton, green eggs and ham or a famous cat, there is a recipe for you below. Find inspiration to take concepts from page to plate.
A kid favorite, thanks to them being small enough to fit in tiny hands, easy to make and perfect for a party, only three ingredients are needed to put them together. Square pretzels, white chocolate melting wafers and green M&Ms are all you need. Line a baking sheet with parchment, bake for a couple minutes, let them cool and there you have it: pretzels good enough for Sam.
Raise a glass of this cheery drink and toast to a wonderful Dr. Seuss Day. Milk, orange juice, yogurt, honey, strawberries and flaxseed are blended to create a unique “not quite a smoothie, not quite a milkshake” beverage. Add ice cubes for an extra chill, or top with even more flaxseed and strawberries. As it is non-alcoholic, even the young ones can join in the fun.
Ideal for a Dr. Seuss movie night or lazy afternoon in, this snack mix is a breeze to toss together. Popcorn, butter, multi-color cheese crackers, buts, salt and dried berries make a sweet and salty snack mix even better. Put it into a large bowl and enjoy.
These cookies, which resemble everyone’s favorite advocate for environmental justice, work best when using a fish cookie cutter that has been rotated. Colorful royal icing details take this butter cookie from simple to delightfully complex. This recipe is best for the experienced baker and decorator, as it is design-heavy. Those who are beginners may want to skip all of the icing colors and intricate details, opting instead to make cookies with just orange and yellow icing.
Marshmallows and chocolate-covered sandwich cookies make these French vanilla cupcakes with a creamy frosting into Cat In the Hat cupcakes. Ideal for a preschool, kids will love these dreamy moist cakes and fun details. Just make sure they only have one each!
Egg whites, sugar and vanilla are whipped into a frothy and light dessert. Thanks to some food color, candy melts and icing details, they closely resemble Thing One and Thing Two’s hair. Perfect for a lighter treat.
The classic ham and cheese omelet is elevated with some parsley added for emphasis. Roll them up, top with more cheese and serve, maybe with parsley-topped scrambled eggs? Have your green eggs and ham, and eat it, too.
Get inspired to bring some beloved books to life with these imaginative recipes. Happy Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Weeks!
