Scorpio season is here, and there is a recurring theme of letting go to heal and transform that is making itself quite apparent. From the new moon solar eclipse in Scorpio to the current transits of Venus as well as the south node in Scorpio, this heightened Scorpio energy is reminding us that it is important to do the necessary shadow work so that we can heal and transform into a higher version of ourselves.
Scorpio’s ruler, Pluto, produces energy that is quite heavy because it takes us into character analysis that is not always “nice.” In order to harness Scorpio/Pluto energy, it is important to understand how Pluto shows up in our lives.

One of the greatest aspects of Scorpio season and its ruler Pluto is delving into the darkness. It is through the experience of Libra that we learned to acknowledge the balance of light and darkness. It is also within the Libra experience that we learn to acknowledge that everything isn’t nice all the time, and we all have a dark side that we must tend to.
It is within the Scorpio experience that we actually do the deep diving into our shadow selves. Active shadow work can be quite difficult as we have to deal with all of the childhood issues, jealousies, grudges, and other not-so-pleasant energies. It is important to remember that no one is all bad. Everyone has both light and dark which is something that we learned during the Libra experience. The whole point of Scorpio is to learn how to acknowledge the not-so-pleasant aspects of the self and be willing to transmute them so that we are able to heal and become the optimal version of ourselves.
Transforming Through the Muck
With a Pluto transformation, we cannot run away from ourselves. Scorpio energy seeks the raw truth…no matter how hurtful it can be which is why this energy is oftentimes shunned as it is the aspect of ourselves that we prefer to keep hidden.
It’s one of the reasons why Scorpio is the sign that is often disliked and maligned as it is easy for others to project their darkness and unresolved energies on Scorpio. Whenever we are unwilling to do our own shadow work, there is always the possibility of projecting our own darkness and ugliness onto others.
The truth of the matter is that everyone has a shadow side to address. There’s always something that needs to be purged in order to evolve into a higher state of being. During Scorpio season especially we are called to transform through the muck and consider the aspects so that we can release once and for all.
The Call to Heal
For many on the journey of self-awareness, Scorpio/Pluto is the call to heal. Healing and transformation are different for each of us. The events that bring us into this awareness to heal vary greatly. Because of the extreme nature of Scorpio and its ruler Pluto, some of the incidents related to this call to healing can be quite dramatic. From extreme losses to betrayals to health issues, different circumstances arise to propel us toward healing and transformation.
Resisting the Call
Now, just because we receive the call to heal and transform doesn’t necessarily mean we are willing to take heed. There are plenty of people who push back against transformative change. However, Pluto’s motto is “evolve or die.” In order to evolve we have to be willing to let go of who and what we are in order to reach higher levels of expression.
Scorpio’s opposite sign, Taurus, is ruled by the pleasure-seeking Venus. Taurus/Venus energy desires security, stability, and all things pleasurable. In comparison, Scorpio energy is experienced as dramatic because it is always kicking up dirt. Stability is not guaranteed because Scorpio is willing to risk its security to reach higher states of being. Scorpio/Pluto energy calls us to move beyond what is comfortable so that we can embrace what is authentic.
Very often this call to healing and transformation comes through a catalyst. Those who are insistent on clinging to the outdated are often forced through Scorpio/Pluto energy to let go. Pluto can be the destructor that has no problem tearing down the old so that we can rebuild from a place of authenticity.
All Or Nothing
Extremism is a key facet of Scorpio energy. It’s all or nothing with Scorpio/Pluto energy due to its fixed nature. Scorpio energy does not straddle the fence like its predecessor Libra. Scorpio wants to get right to the point, and it’s not concerned with the thoughts and opinions of others.
When it comes to the healing and transformative work of Scorpio/Pluto, being true to oneself and others have very little to do with compromising the self. In fact, it is under the energy of Scorpio/Pluto that we learn the importance of picking a side and being willing to go all in.
Let Go To Grow
Letting go to evolve is an important theme of Scorpio/Pluto. One of Scorpio’s biggest hindrances is holding onto old emotional issues that keep it bogged down in lower states of being. A focus on revenge can lead us to use the Scorpio stinger to “get back” at others only to end up hurting ourselves.
At some point on the journey of understanding Scorpio/Pluto energy, one realizes that to finally move forward we have to be willing to let go of the negative energy that keeps us stuck in unhealthy patterns. It is one of the reasons why Scorpio/Pluto is associated with purging as releasing what is no longer necessary and moving beyond old grudges allows space for newness that vibrates on a higher level.
Another aspect of the Scorpio/Pluto experience is the experience of being reborn. To be reborn, we have to leave behind who we once were in order to become who we are meant to be. This is the experience of being the phoenix rising where the newness of who we are comes from the ashes of what we left behind.
The Scorpio extremity does require balance.
However, the extremity associated with Scorpio/Pluto is what provides the motivation, power, and control to focus clearly on what needs to be rooted out and faced so that we can move into a path of higher transformative living and a more evolved existence.
Ultimately, this Scorpio season is definitely a time for us to consider what needs to go. With all of the planetary energies currently in Scorpio, and especially in the Northern Hemisphere where shorter days, longer nights, and colder temperatures lead to an internal orientation that provides greater reflection. Without the distractions of others, we can begin the process of doing the deep internal work of figuring out what needs to be released so that we can achieve a more evolved state.
Yes, Scorpio/Pluto energy can be very complex and difficult to deal with especially for those who are stuck in their ways. However, Scorpio/Pluto is a reminder that we are here to do more than just be comfortable. We are here to achieve evolution and embody the highest expression of ourselves.
