On July 18th and several days after, we’re dealing with some tense oppositional energy when Mercury in Cancer stands across from Pluto in Capricorn. This is a time we will feel the need to speak up about what we need due to the energy of Mercury in Cancer.
However, we may find that we get pushback from people, possibly those with authority and power. One of the biggest lessons from this oppositional energy is it knowing that we have the right and the power to speak up about what we need for our emotional fulfillment-even if others may not agree.
The transit of Mercury in Cancer calls for us to be honest about and speak up about what is needed for our emotional security. Mercury in Cancer is not a light-hearted position when it comes to communication and perspectives. Our perspective and thought process is a colored by our emotions and because of this, we want to be able to share with others what we need for our own nurturing and security.
Getting Push Back on Expressed Desires
Even though we have the energy of Mercury in Cancer encouraging us to speak on our emotional needs there is opposition to Pluto in Capricorn. Although we may express what we need in order to feel more emotionally secure and cared for, we may find that there are others, especially people in power due to the Pluto in Capricorn energy who simply are not willing to give us what we want.
The opposition between Cancer and Capricorn energy can also signal a power struggle between emotional wants and needs and being accountable for ourselves. Adding in Mercury and Pluto, the conversations that we’re having with others about our emotional needs could be met with limitations as shown by Saturn-ruled Capricorn.
There could be power struggles involved when we express what we want emotionally which are met with Pluto in Capricorn’s use of power to tell us that we can only get what we want emotionally under certain conditions.
When We Don’t Get What We Want
Because of the oppositional energy, there is a likelihood that things may not be resolved. Think of a ping pong table. One person represents Mercury in Cancer, and the other person is Pluto in Capricorn. Mercury and Pluto are exchanging energy back and forth but nothing gets resolved due to the opposition.
What this teaches us is that sometimes even though we may express our emotional wants and needs, other people may not be willing to give us what we desire especially if they’re in the position of power to do so.
Likewise, there is the energy of being given what we want emotionally…but with conditions thanks to Pluto in Capricorn. It will be up to us to decide whether or not we want to engage in this type of emotional fulfillment. If we find that the conditions offered by Pluto in Capricorn are something that we can deal with, we may decide that accepting those limitations will be beneficial to us.
However, if we find that the conditions offered by Pluto in Capricorn do not meet our expressions for emotional security, it will be up to us to decide whether or not certain arrangements are beneficial for us.
Remove the Old; Speak on the New
One of the beneficial aspects of the Mercury in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn energy is that it gives us an opportunity to remove those structures that keep us from getting what we want emotionally. If we are willing to do the work of assessing what no longer works for us emotionally, we can tear down those structures to create space for us to speak honestly about our emotional wants and needs.
With Pluto in Capricorn, this is definitely change energy that has us considering what needs to stay and what needs to go. This requires us to accept personal accountability and responsibility for our emotional needs…especially if we are not able to get what we want emotionally from others. If we are willing to be honest with ourselves about our emotional wants and needs, this energy does provide us with the opportunity to do the necessary restructuring of our lives to get what we want emotionally.
Seeking Balance
Whenever there is a planetary opposition, there is an opportunity to obtain balance. Mercury in Cancer has the lesson of learning that it is important to be honest about our emotional needs. Pluto in Capricorn presents the lesson of understanding that in order to get our emotional needs met we have to be accountable and responsible and be willing to make some major changes via restructuring.
In the end, under the energy of Mercury in Cancer, we may find that the limitations given to us by Pluto in Capricorn present us with the realization that it may be up to us to be our own nurturing providers when we are shown that our expression of emotional wants and needs will not be supplied by others…or if supplied will only be done so with limitations and conditions.
