As the sun continues to transit the sign of Taurus, it is important to understand the significance of having a solid foundation. Taurus would have it no other way. There are so many who lack a solid foundation…often due to no fault of their own, and without the solid foundation, life proves to be quite difficult.
After being born in the sign of Aries, the second sign of Taurus is the experience of being grounded within the earth. Taurus represents the soul’s path of the conscious understanding that it is in this physical realm. For this reason, Taurus is adamant about creating a firm foundation, even if it takes forever to do so. Taurus knows that a solid foundation is key to experiencing the pleasures offered via the physical experience.
The First Experience of EarthAs the first earth sign, Taurus represents the soul’s path of being grounded in the physical experience. After being born in the sign of Aries, now it’s time to get used to actually being in the physical. With the energy of Taurus, there’s a desire to put down roots like a firmly planted oak tree. It is hard to live in this physical experience without some type of foundation. In some ways, the experience of Taurus is related to the fulfillment of basic needs.
Think Maslow’s famous triangle detailing the hierarchy of needs that a human requires in order to live a fulfilling life. At the very bottom of the triangle are simple things such as food, shelter, and clothing which Maslow refers to as physiological needs.
Taurus understands that at the minimum, these basic needs must be met in order to maintain oneself in this physical experience. Taurus energy also represents what we value from our own personal value systems to the personal resources that we built for ourselves. In many ways, our value systems determine how we navigate this earthly experience.
Thus, it’s important for human beings to understand how their value systems influence how they approach life. Since Taurus is the first earth sign, the value systems we possess initially come from our family of origin. Ultimately, it is up to us to determine if the value systems that we have inherited and the ones that we have adopted serve us positively.
Taurus & the Desire for Solidity
Taurus seeks that which is solid and steady. Similar to the ground beneath us, Taurus wants to know for sure that all aspects of its life are in place and immovable. This is due to the fixed nature of Taurus energy. The desire to “fix” oneself into the earth makes sense in terms of the evolutionary process of a soul moving through the 12 astrological signs. Initially, we get the fiery change energy of being born, and then we settle into this physical experience with the need to make sure that our basic needs are met as babies so that we can survive.
If you want to explore the innate imbalances that adults possess, look at the condition of Taurus’ ruler, Venus, its sign placement as well as all aspects to Venus to get an idea about the insufficiencies that adults carry hold. Much of what makes us insecure is the lack of security found via the Venus placement. Working with the Venus sign placement gives us a clue into our specific security needs. While there are universal ones as detailed by the hierarchy of needs, our individual security needs are revealed through the Venus placement.
Just consider trying to create a life without a solid foundation. How does this look? Consider the people who have strong values and principles. What does their foundation look like? Similarly, consider those individuals who never quite feel settled. What does their foundation look like? One would be surprised at what these considerations reveal to us. Taurus makes sure that its foundation is solid because a shaky foundation is a recipe for insecurity and uncertainty that is literally embedded in the core of who we are as physical beings.
A Solid Place for Experience
Once there is a solid foundation, the energy of Taurus understands that it is possible to let down one’s guard. All the time and effort that was taken to create something solid can now be thoroughly enjoyed without the fear of disruption. Taurus is known for its “bullheadedness” and resistance to change which is understandable given this sign’s importance in solidifying itself in the physical realm being very resistant to change. Likewise, once one has gone through all the trouble to “get settled,” the last thing needed is something or someone coming along causing disruption to security.
Taurus also rules the five senses which include sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Representing sensuality, Taurus delights in all that the physical body allows. Without the physical body, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy our five senses. Because Taurus took the time to create a solid foundation, there is now space to enjoy the pleasures of the senses from a place of stability.
Just think about all the experiences that are granted through the five senses from enjoying a beautiful rose, listening to lovely music, the heady smell of expensive perfume, the taste of good food, and the feeling of silk against the skin. It is hard to enjoy all that the senses offer us in the now moment when we are worried and insecure. It is for this reason that Taurus takes its time building a foundation so that it can revel in the pleasures of being embodied.
As we continue to experience the energy of the sun transiting the sign of Taurus until May 20th, let us consider whether we have the solid foundations that will allow us to live secure, stable lives. If we currently have solid foundations, are we cognizant of what it took to be able to create these foundations so that we are able to enjoy this physical experience?
However, if we find that stability has evaded us, deeply exploring our relationship to being in the physical body is encouraged. Taurus values itself first and foremost and is willing to take the time, no matter how long, to create a foundation that is meaningful for itself. Here’s to everyone connecting to their inner self-worth and values this Taurus season in order to build solid foundations that will allow for a stable, secure, and enjoyable life experience.
