In recent years, astrology has become increasingly popular. This is especially true among the current generation who are more likely to seek out alternative methods of self-discovery and spiritual knowing. What the rise in the popularity of astrology, many are learning so many new things about how they can use this science to know themselves better and evolve. At some point though, there is the consideration of whether or not there is something beyond the science of astrology. Is it that astrology is a method of self-discovery that is always applicable or is it actually possible to move beyond astrology?
Astrology and Time
Astrology is a pseudoscience that is based on the concept of time. In Western astrology, there are 12 zodiac signs which are divided into 30-degree increments. Each of these 12 zodiac signs is represented by 30 days or a month time span throughout the 365-day Gregorian calendar. Everything from calculating the natal chart to analyzing transits and progressions is all based on time. In astrology, the experience of time is governed by the planet Saturn which is the ruler of the zodiac sign Capricorn. It is through analyzing planets and their relation to the man-made concepts of time that we are able to understand how the planetary bodies impact the human condition. It is for this reason that when creating a birth chart, also known as the natal chart, it is essential to have detailed information about the birthplace, the birth time, and the birth location in order to provide an accurate assessment of the planetary positions and their influence on an individual.

In astrology, Saturn represents the physicality of this experience. As the ruler of Capricorn, Saturn is the energy that is associated with creating and building solid structures. For those who believe that they incarnate into a body into this physical experience, Saturn represents the contract of being born into a body. This is the point at which the spiritual essence meets the physical construct that is this earthly experience. Many people fear the energy of Saturn because it’s is a reminder that we are here in this physical experience for a reason. It is also the energy of being accountable and responsible for our physical existence. Some people handle Saturn energy better than others, and there are specific ages such as 7, 14, 21, 28, and so forth that mark with is known as Saturn cycles.
Of these Saturn cycles, the Saturn return, which is experienced around the ages of 28 and 56, is the most known specifically the first Saturn return at the age of 28 through 30. The energy at the Saturn return presents the understanding that we are just not here to be in a physical body just because. It is during these ages at the first Saturn return that we are reminded of our existence and many begin to question why they are here and come to some type of resolution as to what they should be doing in this physical experience. At the second Saturn return experience at the age of 56, this particular time is often a reflection of all of the achievements and accomplishments made throughout life or the regrets of not having done specific things. In some cases, it could quite possibly be both. Nevertheless, both of these Saturn returns play a significant role in understanding why the soul has incarnated into a physical body.
As with all the planets in astrology, Saturn moves through each of the signs Aries through Pisces offering us a lesson related to that particular sign. In many ways, each of the lessons in the zodiac builds upon each other until we reach the final stage of Saturn in Pisces where we are faced with understanding whether or not we have taken the spiritual which is represented by Neptune/Pisces and implemented it into the physicality of this earthly realm which is represented by Saturn. Basically, once you get to Saturn in Pisces it’s very reminiscent of being asked do you remember why you came here in the physicality and did you make your intentions and dreams come true. For each individual, there is a specific Saturn lesson as detailed by the Saturn astrological sign and house placement in the natal chart. Learning these lessons is important as it is part of this human experience.
Moving Beyond the Illusion of Time
In considering what is beyond astrology, is important to understand that time in and of itself is an illusion. This concept is related to Neptune/Pisces energy because, in the realm of spirit, time does not exist. Time is a man-made construct, and astrology is based on this particular man-made construct. In reality, there is no past, there is no future. There is only ever now in the spiritual realm. We as humans have created the concept of time for our own purposes, and even the science of astrology is tied to this man-made concept of time which ultimately is an illusion and does not exist.
Evolving Beyond the Astro Wheel & Reincarnation
There are many thought systems that promote the idea that astrology is linked to reincarnation. This is due to the idea that a soul continues to reincarnate until it reaches the point of learning all of its agreed-upon lessons before entering this physical realm. When the soul has completed its life lessons across many lifetimes, there is no longer a need to reincarnate. Through the process of reincarnation, the soul creates karma each lifetime. It is believed that the Saturn sign and house placement reveal the past life karma to be resolved. Pluto and South Node contacts are also indicators of past life connections and issues to be addressed in this lifetime. Thus, if the idea that reincarnation and astrology are linked, moving beyond astrology may require tackling our Saturn life lessons so that there is no longer a need and/or desire to return to this physical state.
Ultimately, moving beyond our natal astrological imprint is a process that involves resolving the karma of repeated lifetimes. It is believed that we don’t remember what we did in our past lives when entering a new life and for this reason, it can be difficult to avoid the actions that create the repeated karma for us to continually resolve. Perhaps, in the end, our natal astrological signatures represent our life journeys and our complex paths towards both embracing and resolving the experience of being human so that we can return to spirit.
