These planetary bodies in the sky today are at odds with each other, creating more difficulties communicating your feelings– but also providing a heightened opportunity for self-betterment and self-expression. Read on to find out how to make the most of this astrological aspect.
Mercury In Gemini
Mercury is completely at home in its native sign of Gemini. Mercury, the messenger god who brought important news to the pantheon, is the ruler of the sign of Gemini, the twin who not only analyzes and intellectualizes everything, but also communicates that understanding to others. Mercury in Gemini thus creates a mirror effect, with the planet bringing new understanding and amplifying its own qualities. Whatever signs or planets these qualities aspect will inevitably be filtered through this lens. Being the sign of twins, Mercury in Gemini also has an innate ability to see both sides of any issue, and will often seemingly offer up the contradictory pattern of seeing the truth in seemingly opposing perspectives.
Neptune in Pisces

Neptune is also in its native sign. Pisces, the watery sign of the fish, is the home of the distant blue planet named for the mythological god of the sea. Pisces is all about poetry and spiritual service–at its best it is a beautiful and poetic connection between the self and the non-self, transmuting the egoic dream of separation and becoming one with the divine–but at its worst it is delusional and powerless with an impaired sense of self and a tendency towards escapism. Pisces has a particular proclivity towards this dualism, as it is the last sign on the zodiac cycle that represents the journey towards illumination. The presence of its ruler, a deity which enjoys dominion over all free-flowing waters, allows for authority and discipline to be exacted over this energy, balancing the highly transmutable energy into a channel which can be used to accomplish wonderful things.
Squares
Squares are dynamic aspects that demand action and integration. While trines are all about innate harmonious blending, with squares you will have to do that blending yourself. For a metaphorical example, think of squares as the planet Mars and trines as the planet Venus. Squares are fire, squares can cause friction and tension and every the breakdown of some things which aren’t working anymore–but ultimately squares orient the aspects towards action. If something isn’t working, the impulse to do something about it rather than sit on it and whine–that’s the energy of squares.
What It Means For You
The relationship of action and tension between the analytical and dichotomous Mercury in Gemini between the seized power of the transmutable creates a dynamic dance that could leave you reeling. While Pisces is all about intuition and feeling, Mercury is all about proof, facts and statistics–and these two energies bouncing off each other could create some confusion between what you are feeling and what you’re learning. You might feel like what you’re experiencing right now is acutely felt, understood o an innate level, and easily seized for your own benefit–but then, when it comes time to tell a close friend about it, you’re at a loss for words. You’ll have to do the work yourself of figuring out why you can’t find words for something that is felt so acutely. It isn’t always easy to communicate interior worlds, and it is never so much so than now with Mercury squaring Pisces.
You may also feel a dichotomy between your identity and your feelings. Mercury at its best is a great busying of the ego, getting to work for the benefit of others to find out the truth of things in our world. Pisces is not very interested in this and prefers to lounge around, discovering interior truths through contemplation, reflection. Pisces in its most dignified does not place much value on the ego, and thus the ego can flounder around in the sign of Pisces, looking for something to do. If the Pisces isn’t careful, the bored and disregarded ego can attempt to take full control of the entire sign. This is where the delusion comes in, and so a stable Mercury in its own sign is a great opportunity to put the hardworking ego of Mercury to good use and let Pisces do its thing in a healthy way.
In order to own this energy and put it to work for you (very necessary with square energy), try to integrate the energy of both planets into some charitable action. Use communication to spread awareness in your own life. Share some poetry that you wrote, or just share a picture you found that touches you on an emotional level. Don’t keep everything inside, where it can destabilize into delusion–express yourself! You don’t have to use words, either–paint a picture, do a dance, sing a song; but make sure you share it, and make sure that whatever you do is rooted in an expression of yourself as a mere facet in the unified consciousness of humanity.
In other words, don’t let your ego run rampant and make it all about you! Show yourself to the world, and don’t be afraid that you didn’t do it perfectly. Self expression, when done well, becomes a platform for the audience to see something of the universal in what you are doing. Life has a learning curve built in, and the arc never decreases. We are all always rehearsing ourselves all of the time. Put yourself in touch with something universal, and let yourself be a vessel to express that.
