So why and how did corned beef end up on the menu for this holiday you might ask. Well, it’s more so a British thing because they ate beef regularly, and bought salt for Ireland to cure it. Ireland used there cows for dairy products, milk and their strength in the fields.
Gaelic Ireland considered cows to be sacred animals and symbols of wealth. The only time a cow was killed for meat was if it was too old to produce or work. It wasn’t until Irish immigration, and their proximity to their Jewish neighbors, that they partook in the celebratory meal of their culture and history. Corned Beef in the Stove
For corned beef in the stove, you will need about 3 to 4 hours for total cook time.
Most stove corned beef recipes can be cooked in or on the stove. The key to the stove methods is low and slow, being sure to check the internal meat temp reaches 160°F. Cooking brisket this way is reminiscent to a traditional Mom’s corned beef recipe.
Corned Beef in the Instant Pot
For corned beef in an Instant Pot, you will be using about 2 pounds of brisket. With Instant Pot recipes, you need to be all about the layers. In this recipe you will be placing onions in first, then putting the brisket on top and finally pouring in the broth. You’ll cook for 90 minutes, follow manufacture guidelines, and put in your cabbage, potato, and carrots with oil and cook for an additional 4 to 5 minutes.

Who doesn’t love their Crock Pot, or better yet, the Crock Pot setting on their Instant Pot? Slow cooker corned beef is super juicy, and easily done any night of the week, not just on St. Patrick’s Day. With a Crock Pot you can easily fit 3 to 4 pounds of brisket. This method is the slowest cooking method, but the end result is so worth it. Within in 4 to 5 hours, you will have the tastiest corned beef and cabbage.
Although corned beef recipes are generally cooked with cabbage and potatoes, you can cook this dish up with a twist.
