The positive aspects of astrology are like golden gems. Many people want them, and those that have the more difficult natal aspects wish that someone would have given them these positive aspects at birth as it would have made their lives a lot easier.
The positive aspects of trine and sextile are known as the “easy” energetic patterns between planetary bodies. When planets are exchanging energy in a positive manner, it can feel like everything just flows and goes so much easier. However, there is a hidden dark side to positive astrological aspects that are not often spoken about. Those trines and sextiles offer many benefits, but as with all things that come too easily, we often don’t consciously appreciate that which is always readily available to us. This is an exploration of the downside of positive astrological aspects and how this energy can be utilized in a more efficient, conscious manner.

The Glory of the Positive Aspects
For the love of trines, sextiles, and the easily integrated conjunction. These are considered easy and beneficial astrological aspects. They represent the condition in which the energy between planetary bodies is exchanged. For example, consider two people that get along quite well. There is very little arguing, no competition, no malice. They simply work together nicely with little (sextile) to no effort (trine). In some cases, it may even feel like they are one in the same (conjunction) which is a good thing if both parties are on one accord. The less than desirable aspects such as the square and the opposition are frequently bemoaned for the less than pleasant effects that are produced. Why have strife from the hard aspects when you can live on easy street with the positive astrological aspects?
It should be noted that yes, there is a consensus that positive aspects are better simply because they give us less trouble in life. However positive aspects can also hold us back and keep us from reaching our full potential. Easy street is just that…easy, and sometimes when positive aspects aren’t consciously integrated it can be the equivalent of watching an unattended running faucet. All that energy has gone to waste because it is not always channeled properly.
When Easy Aspects are Under Utilized
One of the biggest issues with the traditionally “easy” astrological aspects is passivity and underutilization. The trine aspect is especially guilty of this because there is really nothing that the individual has to do in order to harness the energy offered by the trine. For example, an individual with a gift for public speaking due to a grand trine aspect in air signs simply has a gift for being able to speak to the public. Whether or not this individual chooses to use this energy constructively is totally up to the individual. Maybe they will….maybe they won’t. There is no push for the individual to do anything with the grand trine (unless, of course, there are some hard aspects hitting one or several of the planets involved in the grand trine).
Similarly, with the sextile, there is the positive energy that has to be consciously used. The sextile does require work, but what if the holder of the sextile energy doesn’t want to do the work? Well, the sextile will still grant the user the positive energy, but the full potential of the energies associated with the sextile aspect will not be realized.
Thus, trines and sextiles are great positive astrological energies, but if the owner doesn’t consciously use them then in many ways these energies are often taken for granted. The owners of such positive energy can even “skate by” knowing that things will be okay all because of these beneficial aspects. There is nothing wrong with this, but it is important to be self-aware regarding the use of our energies.
Making the Most of Positive Aspects
How do we make the most of our positive astrological aspects? We do so consciously. Consider ways that we can take our innate abilities and use them for the benefit of ourselves and others. Just because we’ve got it easy with trine and sextile energies doesn’t mean that we should do nothing. This ease can be utilized in ways that can make your life experience even greater than it already is. Also, when you’ve got it easy, it is important to express gratitude. Harnessing gratitude reminds us of what we have and gives us perspective as to how this easy energy has made life a lot more fulfilling and troublesome in some regards which is always a good thing. When we are grateful for what we have, even positive astrological energies, we are less likely to take what we have for granted and squander it away.
