There was a study released in June that showed that mouthwash can potentially fight Covid-19. The study, which was published in a journal called “Function”, stated that mouthwash could prevent the viruses from penetrating the lipid membrane.
Mouthwash is once again making headlines. Peer-reviewed research has shown that mouthwash can kill the coronavirus in as little as 30 seconds. Even though the research sounds promising, it is important to note that doctors are not recommending that people go out and buy mouthwash. There are more effective things that can be done to fight this pandemic while we wait for a vaccine.

A team of researchers tested seven different types of mouthwash. They used Dentyl Dual Action, Listerine Advanced Gum Treatment, Listerine Cool Mint, Corsodyl, Videne, SCD Max and Dentyl Fresh Protect. The researchers found that the mouthwashes can help inactivate the virus.
The study also showed that some mouthwashes were more effective than others. The two Dentyl products and Listerine Advanced Mouthwash were able to destroy the virus in just 30 seconds. The other mouthwashes only had a moderate effect on the virus. Corsodyl was the only mouthwash that did not have any effect on the virus.
Researchers have stated that they need to perform more studies in order to examine the effects that mouthwash has on Covid-19. However, it is important to note that you may not be able to replicate what happens in the lab in real life. The World Health Organization has stated that certain mouthwashes can kill bacteria, but they may not necessarily protect you from the coronavirus.
William Schaffner, who is an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, stated that he is not particularly interested in the link between mouthwash and Covid-19. He said that the findings of the study are interesting, but they have only been tested in the lab.
Amesh A. Adalja is a senior scholar who works at John Hopkins Center for Health Security. He said that mouthwash may not necessarily prevent the infection. However, he did say that the results of the study show that it isn’t difficult to kill Covid-19. There are several substances that can kill it.
Thomas Russo is a medical doctor and professor at the University of Buffalo. He described the results of the study as lukewarm. He also said that there is a difference between the lab and real life settings. He also stated that mouthwash probably won’t do anything if you have already been infected.
Dr. Russo also stated that the virus can get in your nasal cavity and eyes. He doesn’t think that it will work once it gets in your cells. He also doesn’t want people to let their guard down. If you use mouthwash and make out with someone, then that doesn’t mean that your chances of getting infected are 0 percent.
You don’t necessarily have to go out and buy mouthwash. The findings of the study are preliminary.
