Get Creative
If your dates are going to be confined to a phone screen, you’ll have to get a little creative once you’re ready to move past the “casual conversation” phase. There are lots of great mobile games that you can play with each other no matter how far apart you are. There are also the classics like “Would You Rather?”. Games like that can be a great way to get to know each other. If there are cool sights worth seeing near where you live, consider giving your date a virtual tour. Streaming services like Netflix and Hulu are great options too. Pick a movie or show you can both watch and then talk about. A shared experience, even one shared across distance, can fan the flames of a new romance.
Try A Socially Distant Date
If restrictions in your area allow for it, and you both feel healthy, consider trying a socially distant date. Many restaurants are open for takeout or delivery, so you might grab something from a local joint and meet your date at a park. This will give both of you the opportunity to get some air, have a conversation in person, and support a local restaurant that might be hurting as a result of the pandemic. Just make sure to maintain six feet of distance! It might feel strange at first, but you might be surprised at how quickly you can adapt and make it work.
If you’re a great cook, consider sharing a favorite recipe with your date so you can both cook the same meal and try it together separately. Then settle in, put on some Netflix, drink a favorite bottle of wine, and see what happens.
Don’t Break the Rules
No matter how tempting it may be to flout the rules and meet up in person, it’s not worth the risk. In some places, you might even get cited and fined a significant amount of money. Talk about a romance-killer. Play it safe and wait until quarantine orders are lifted before you venture out for am more traditional date.
Dating might look and feel a little different during quarantine, but there’s no reason that your love life has to completely stall. It just requires a little creativity and the right person to try it with.
