MarsCat is a robotic cat that reaches incredible levels of cuteness. You might say that it has a certain wow (meow?) factor. While it will do many cat-like things for you, its price tag is a bit of a random number. A MarsCat is supposed to start off at a whopping $1,299. That means it costs over $1,000 more than a real life cat who might even actually like you sometimes. Still, it’s one of the interesting robots contributions that often get overlooked in reviews of the show, so here’s to you MarsCat!
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold
We all remember the now antiquated magic of mid-2000’s flip phones, but the tech has gotten a new look in the modern era. Instead of “flipping” via hinges like in olden times, now the devices fold seamlessly to reduce their size. Lenovo has created what they call the world’s first foldable PC. It’s a tablet device that conveniently folds in half, the way a book would close. The 13.3″ screen looks to be crystal clear in demonstrations, so we’re excited to see if this fresh new idea might catch on with other favorite tablet makers. And thanks to 5G technology finally arriving, this is one folding tablet that will be a little sharper than its ancestors.
Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR
No CES is complete without its fair share of interesting automobiles, and no presentation was quite as impressive as the VISION AVTR. Teaming up with James Cameron to bring an Avatar-like vehicle to life is something that’s otherworldly in so many ways, and the vehicle itself certainly looks like it came from another planet. You can bet that the price tag is going to make it unobtainable to the bulk of people in the world, but for directors like Cameron, they can probably drive home in it or take it for a light snack. Pulling up to a McDonald’s in one of these things would certainly create a lot of memories for anyone in the area. It is curvier than your standard corvette, has wheels that look like they came from alien skin, and professes to merge the human race with machines. That’s a pretty big day’s work for Cameron and Mercedes. For now, the VISION AVTR is a concept car, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this vision come to life at some point in the future. Of all the cars at the CES in 2020, this one ranks as the most curious and enticing.
Mophie Powerstation GO
The Mophie Powerstation GO is a more practical device than it might sound like. It’s a powerstation that looks a lot like your typical everyday modem, and it comes with a set of jumpercables that work in conjunction with the powerstation. In everyday life, starting your vehicle is pretty important, and for people who suffer the death of a battery, life becomes very complicated indeed. Thanks to mophie, there’s an easy, smart way to get your vehicle jumped and be on the move again. It features a built-in LED light as well for working in darker conditions. While the electronics show often focuses on the fun of gaming systems, speakers, and TV’s, it’s nice to see a company using newer tech to do practical things like this. Thanks mophie.
As you can see, the 2020 CES was a range of products. Our exercise equipment is getting smarter. Our tablets are folding like books. Our televisions are windows to another world. All in all, electronics in 2020 are still performing their basic missions, but they’re doing it with greater intelligence and finesse. You might call the 2020 CES a window into another world, just like Samsung’s upcoming bezel-free TV. To most folks, the other world of 2020 looks just like the things we dreamed of for the past few years, a list of things we want and need today, tomorrow, and maybe forever.
