It seems that every product that is used by consumers today have the potential of causing some type of cancer. From much of the food that people eat or drink to the cosmetic products that they use. Even outdoor gardening products have claims against them for causing health issues such as cancer, or other illness. It has gotten to a point where precautionary measures must be taken with many everyday products. There is much skepticism when it comes to trying new and experimental products. The constant flow of advertisements that speak out against certain products is causing an influx of confusion for many people.
The Johnson and Johnson company has a lawsuit against them that claims that their talcum powder causes cancer in some of it’s users. The talc powder cancer is said to be an ovarian cancer with talcum powder at the root of origin. The lawsuit claims that the Johnson and Johnson company sold their talcum powder without fully disclosing that it had a potential cancer risk. Women who have used this product and have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, borderline mucinous tumors, or borderline serous tumors may be eligible for compensation of significant monetary value.

Juries in this lawsuit have already awarded women over $5 billion dollars, and thousands of others have filed for this compensation. Talc powder cancer may not be a consideration for many women who have cancer of the reproductive organs. Their cancer may not have a variable as a cause. Only a specialist can make this determination. Johnson and Johnson has already paid millions to women who have filed claims, and been proven to have the talcum powder as the cause. Used as a feminine hygiene product, talcum powder is a very common household product. Talc is also found in Johnson’s Baby Powder, and Shower to Shower powder, all by Johnson and Johnson.
Talc is a mineral made of silicon, magnesium, and oxygen. It is very absorvent, and lessens friction. Cancer can result from talc use because the tiny particles of the mineral are difficult for the body to remove. When the particles settle and become stuck in the body, a tumor may form and grow when used over time. The suit that was filed stated that Johnson and Johnson should have given warning aout this potential ahead of time because they were aware of the link between the mineral talc, and ovarian cancer as far back as 1982.
The suit continues with more women being encouraged to get a diagnosis, and file their claim. If they have had ovarian, or other reproductive organ cancer for a while, they can still file a claim. This is not just for new diagnosis only. This has been occurring for more than 30 years. Women started the fight in 2012, and were awarded the large settlement, and now thousands of women can be compensated for using a trusted product. This was a case of buyer beware, but the buyer was not ever informed.
