Millennials seem to have more perks in the modern day. Older workers do get offered this perk as well, and they jump on it. However, the younger generation seems to take less time off trying to show that they want to work for their jobs and help the company grow. So in theory, the younger employees do get offered the perk but it’s the same for the older employees too. However, the fields that offer limitless vacations are mainly done by freshy graduated college students. So they do get offered the perk more, but only because less of the older generation work in the same fields. This could be shown as favoritism to the younger generation, but to attract the best employees you have to offer them the best perks.
Some people claim that limitless vacations are great for them, as they can take off whenever they need to. However, many claim they feel pressured to continue working because no one else is taking off.
Some companies make their employees feel like taking off could get them fired. Since they’re new, they don’t take off anytime so that they can work. They also don’t want to take off because they feel like they could lose their job if they do. However, on the other side of that some companies know how to use this perk the right way. Like Buffer, who institutes a minimum vacations policy which alerts manager when employees haven’t taken anytime off. The manager will then go to the employee and tell them that they need to take some time off, nicely of course.
In summary, limitless vacations are neutral to the younger generation. Yes, they’re offered the perk more, but that’s only because the older generation can’t get work in the same fields. However, it simply depends on how the company implements these limitless vacations to their employees. The majority of companies today only use this perk as a selling point to get the most talented workers.
