What You Need to Know Before Watching Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin

Here is the scoop:

• Twenty years before the show is set, a series of events ripped Millwood, a blue-collar town, apart. Now, the Little Liars, a group of teens with seemingly nothing in common, are being tormented by an Assailant for what their mothers did all those years ago (the original sin)…as well as their own actions.
• The series aims to be darker and more modern than the original—The cocreator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, describes Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin as the “slasher” version.
• The first episodes will be devoted to introducing the new characters, setting and world—although loyal fans can expect nods to the original as the series progresses.
• The main characters are Tabby (played by Chandler Kinney), who is always at the movies, Minnie “Mouse,” (played by Maila Pyles) who is quirky and quiet, Faran (played by Zaria), who is trying to break down barriers as a ballerina, and Imogen (Bailee Madison), a pregnant teen.
• Suspense and horror will be tapped into more from the mom’s and the Little Liars’ perspectives
• More female direction: Nine out of the 10 initial episodes are directed by women
• The moms will still play a role, but they differ from the ones in the original series when it comes to background a personality
• There is a blonde mean girl—with a twin (it cannot be Pretty Little Liars without twins)
• A lot of familiar tropes will be explored (secrets, lies, forbidden romances, etc.)
