Reese’s execs said they understand a cup without chocolate might be a shock, but this is all for the peanut butter fans. This gives them something to get excited about in the dessert world. If you think about it, there aren’t many other full peanut butter desserts.
Let’s dive into some fun Reese’s facts. This candy goes back to 1928 when it was created by H.B. Reese. He was shipping foreman and dairy farmer for Milton S. Hershey. Reese decided to leave his job to begin his own candy business from scratch. Nowadays, that little company makes more than $2 billion each year.
Reese didn’t start on a high note. He opened his R&R Candy Company in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, but it just didn’t go well. He jumped around to different chocolate companies, but couldn’t quite win the candy game. He finally went back to Hershey to work in shipping. Reese decided it was up to him to make his candy business worthwhile. He tried out new treats down in his basement. After a while, he made his way into the game. People seemed to love his Lizzie Bar, which was a mixture of caramel, chocolate, and coconut. In 1923, Reese was finally able to leave his job at the Hershey’s plant and start his own company, the H.B. Reese Candy Company.
Nowadays, any new product put out by the company gets nationwide attention. Back in the 1920s and 1930s, the first chocolate-covered peanut butter cups were a quiet introduction. The little peanut butter cups were packaged in a five-pound bag of candy with others. Of course, after one taste, many people jumped on the Reese’s bandwagon. Stores couldn’t keep them in stock. The peanut butter cups sold for one cent in 1935.
So, how did Mr. Hershey and Mr. Reese’s unite as one company? The two men had a rich history, but Harry Reese never saw his former boss’ company merge with his. The Hershey company took over the H.B. Reese Candy Company in 1963. The irony was that the man who was once Hershey’s dairy farmer was now behind his best-selling chocolate.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are traditional, but they’ve been turning into almost every dessert under the sun. From pairing them with ice cream cake and mixing them with banana cream to making peanut butter and chocolate spread and mixing it with dark chocolate, there is no stopping this decadent treat.
This candy is so popular that they proclaim themselves the most favorite Halloween candy. Hershey does sell over $500 million worth each year, so this could very well be true. Customers get them in every shape and size throughout the year. There just aren’t many people that can withstand the chocolate and peanut butter pairing. Now, they’ll have to dive into the newest creation to see what all the excitement is about.
You’re not wrong if you think Reese’s has dipped its toe in the only peanut butter realm before. In 2019 and also 2020, the company offered Peanut Butter Lovers Cups for a small amount of time. The only catch was they had a little chocolate but was mostly peanut butter. If you love peanut butter, you’re going to love the newest concoction by Reese’s. These peanut butter cups without any chocolate will available in the mini, standard, and king forms. You’ll see them popping up in April this year. Get ready for another game-changer from Reese’s.
