In 2018, Netflix and Roald Story company signed an agreement to collaborate in making animated shows concerning unique properties they control. Recently, Netflix announced that they are currently in advanced stages to fully acquire Roald Dahl Story Company, RDSC, as a subsidiary of the video streaming platform. Based on the report released by top officials at Netflix, the company is waiting for regulatory approvals from relevant authorities before the final deal can get sealed. Currently, there are no stumbling blocks along the way to Netflix to acquire this company thoroughly.
The Roald Dahl story company acquisition by Netflix brings onboard a catalog of approximately 16 titles of running products that will get featured under the Netflix banner. These titles include Billy and the Minpins, Tales of the childhood, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dirty beast, Esio Trot, Charlie, the Great Glass Elevator, and many other titles.
Last year, 2020, Netflix entered into a partnership with the famous animator Taika Waititi to see the company make animated series based on two of the tittles acquired from the Roald Dahls acquisition, namely Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The other titles from the acquisitions will all follow Oompa-Loompas. Based on data released from Netflix majority of the projects from the acquisition are currently ongoing and creative work is in the process. Netflix is still in a cordial working relationship with movie maker Sony and they are in agreement working on the title Matilda the Musical.
Netflix chief Executive officer Ted Sarandos states that the above projects have had huge impacts on their future. It is an eye-opener to a more ambitious project that they have lined up in the future. A statement released by the company’s top governing body stated in bits that they are in the process of creating unique universal and live-action movies, both animated and vice versa, to bring a fulfilling experience on our television.
It’s important to note that the newest Netflix acquisition, Roald Dahl’s book, has already been translated to about 63 languages globally. The book has made close to 300 million sales in several copies. Some bestselling titles and collections from the Roald Dahls acquisitions include the BFG, fantastic Mr. Foxily Wonka, and The Twits, which are quite famous among young generations and adults from all walks of life. Netflix is bringing out the real stories and power these books have and giving young people a platform to experience the power that the young generation has missed for quite some time.
One of the uncertain issues despite the publicity on the Roald Dahls Story company acquisition by Netflix is the fact to do with the dates we expect these projects to hit our screens. Netflix has been non-committal on this issue, but there are rumors that the Waititi show might get released by the latest end of this year as they are in the final stages of the film production. A considerable schedule and plan get expected to get released by the famous streaming platform Netflix regarding the release date on the Roald Dahl catalog, presumably by the end of 2022. At the moment, it’s a wait-and-see game as Netflix work tirelessly to bring to light some of these stories from the Roald Dahl catalog.
