So, you did it and got the COVID-19 vaccine. Congrats! You have done, and continue to do, your part in helping to mitigate the spread of the virus: wearing masks, social distancing and avoiding crowded spaces. But, no one can deny that it has been a long 13 months in this country, and everyone could use some joy these days.
As an incentive for working to keep people safe, some businesses are offering perks and freebies to those with a valid vaccine card. What can you get? Whether you have been partially (come back for your second!) or fully vaccinated, or are just curious as you wait for your turn to take your shot, check out the list here.
Experts predict that the free vaccinations could start a “freebie fest,” as businesses scramble to entice customers again and work to incentivize people doing something for the public good.
Before we get into the details, we want to put out a couple disclaimers and recommendations: As your card has your full name and birthday on it, it is recommended against posting photos on social media or publically (ex. sending photos of your card to friends and family) since it is as valuable as a birth certificate and may make you a target for hackers. Additionally, archivists urge people to not laminate original cards, as it could make it fade over time or make it impossible to update. Consider getting a copy laminated and to save the original in a safe, locked place.
Krispy Kreme
The donut chain is offering vaccinated individuals one free donut a day through the end of the year. No purchase is necessary, but customers must show their card. This offer is valid in every Krispy Kreme location in the U.S., so fans in various states can get their sweet fried dough fix.
The promo has been met with some backlash from those who do not intend to get it. Additionally, health leaders warn about the effects of eating a donut every day. Even so, this offer is still valid, so indulge however you would like.
Staples and Office Depot
Through July 25, Office Depot and OfficeMax will laminate completed vaccination cards for free. Just reference the code 52516714 to take advantage. Through May 1, Staples is offering the same deal with code 81450.
The CDC has yet to offer any guidance in regards to lamination, however, laminating a copy may be recommended as boosters or a clean original card may be needed in the future.
Sam Adams
The first 10,000 drinkers who present proof of vaccination on social media get a free beer. Posting a card is not required or recommended, a selfie or official sticker works, too. Use the hashtag #ShotForSam and get $7 through CashApp to cover a beer.
Drop App
Post a selfie of you getting vaccinated or you with an official sticker, along with the hashtag #DropCOVID to Instagram for a chance to get cash. Redeem at retailers such as Sephora and Amazon.
Baseball Tickets
Get $10 tickets for Cincinnati Reds games if you show your card and are at least halfway through the vaccination process, you can get tickets for cheap. Pick up tickets at the Great American Ball Park. Offer valid on Monday to Thursday games in April and May.
This was introduced as Cleveland and Ohio hope more adults step up and get vaccinated by July 1.
Stay tuned for more offers from major retailers and organizations. Who knows, maybe they will be announced soon.
Another big kudos for stepping up and doing your part for public health. Now, encourage others to do the same. We can fight COVID-19 together!
