December 21, 2020, marked the official beginning of Capricorn season. It’s time to hunker down and take a serious look at our experience. It is no coincidence that the beginning of Capricorn season also marks the winter solstice. In the Northern Hemisphere, we experience the shortest amount of daylight. From this point forward, the amount of daylight will increase as we head towards spring. Capricorn energy is serious, focused, and responsible, and ready to climb whatever mountains necessary to meet its goals. Use the energy of Saturn to make plans for this upcoming year and for the spring season.
Capricorn Season-Mapping Out a Plan
While Capricorn season ushers winter, this is a great time to make plans. Saturn energy does not enjoy surprises and reckless behavior. This is an energy that sets its sight on a particular goal and forms a plan to get ahead. As an earth sign, Capricorn wants to create something solid in the world. This energy desires tangible results that can be experienced with the senses.

This Capricorn season is the perfect time to make a plan for your path forward. Just because there is snow on the ground and the cold frost forces us inside does not mean that we can’t consider how we would like to move forward. Capricorn understands that without a plan we will simply drift without direction. Thus, a well-laid out plan is essential for building structures and creating the life experience we desire.
Before we go making our plans this Capricorn season, it is important to know where we are headed. It is hard to make an effective plan when we have no idea what we want to achieve. Thus, taking time to ourselves is an essential part of mapping out an effective plan for our future. Sagittarius season gave us a vision. It is during this time under the rule of Saturn that we are able to take that vision and create a plan to make it a reality.
Hibernation for Evaluation
One of the most important lessons of Capricorn energy is the need to hibernate. While some may think that hibernation is stagnation, this is not true. Take a look at nature. Animals rest during the winter. They spend the winter months away from the harsh coldness of the outside world so that they are prepared for the spring. Similarly, we as humans are called to do the same.
As Saturn energy is seeking to pave a path forward and reach its goals, hibernation gives us time away from the world so that we can figure out our path for ourselves. Too often the whisperings of others influence our paths. We seek validation from others by attempting to be what they desire. However, this validation is not our path. Our paths are unique to each of us, and it is important that we take responsibility for creating the life that we want. Saturn would have it no other way.
Hibernation gives us a chance to pull back from the outside world so that we can create the masterplan that will move us forward in our respective ways. Consider hibernation as an evaluation period where we each have the opportunity to thoroughly review our lives and figure out what is and is not working. Oftentimes, it is necessary to distance ourselves from the outside so that we can get clarity on what is needed to make our lives run more efficiently.
Taking Accountability
As the ruler of karma, Saturn/Capricorn energy demands accountability and responsibility from us. A lack of responsibility and accountability keeps us from reaching our full potential. When there is always an excuse, very little ever gets done. Capricorn understands that hard work, discipline, and diligence are needed in order to get things done. Thus, this Capricorn season is a great time to really become the “manager” of your life. While this sounds easy, for some people it is not as being the manager of our lives requires that we take full responsibility for ourselves.
As we reflect on this Capricorn season, let’s ask ourselves the hard questions about our lives. Do we really put in the necessary effort to get where we want to be in life or do we make excuses for ourselves? Are we willing to honestly review our lives and create a plan that will allow us to move beyond where we are? Remember, Capricorn is a cardinal sign of change. Saturn energy rewards us not or having ideas and visions. That is the path of Sagittarius. Capricorn wants up to actually take the lofty visions of Sagittarius and make them concrete. In order to do this, we have to be accountable to ourselves and make changes that are rooted in reality.
Ultimately, the sun transiting Capricorn is a chance to make concrete changes in our lives that are rooted in reality. True to Saturn’s nature, hard work, dedication, and a dose of lessons will be involved. However, at the end of it all, we will come out of it knowing that we have earned everything that we have achieved because we put in the effort.
There is an old astrology idiom that states, “Saturn delays, but it does not deny.” Capricorn season urges us to become efficient managers of our lives. We each have the ability to achieve the success desired, but it is important to take time to seriously analyze our lives so that we can make the changes that will produce positive results.
Here’s to Capricorn season and the call to be the serious managers of our lives. The sun transits Capricorn from December 21, 2020, to January 19, 2021.
