It may only be April, but there is no doubt that 2020 has been one for the books. We are currently in the midst of a global Pandemic due to COVID-19, and numerous Restrictions and Lockdowns are in place, but you can still have a happy Easter with your Family. Here are some tips to follow to have a memorable holiday.
In honor of celebrating what the holiday is at its core, use the time to stream a church service or celebration on TV, via video chat or through the internet. Many churches are putting sermons online, but even if yours does not, see if members want to get together via video conferencing software to come together, sing songs, recite biblical passages and worship.
Dress Up
With restaurants, theaters and other venues closed for dining and socializing, dressing up for a night on the town has suddenly become a thing of the past. But, with the holiday weekend approaching, use this opportunity to ditch the sweatpants and the oversized top and put on something a little nicer. Be sure to document the moment with some pictures. Hey, at least you will look nicer than usual if a friend or a relative invites you to an impromptu video chat!
Gather with your Household
If you are sheltering in place with your household, gather together to play a game, converse or eat a meal. Check in with loved ones that are far away through a phone call or a video chat. Use this time to catch up, think positively and celebrate the beginning on a new season.
Enjoy a Meal
Whether it is the ham, turkey, asparagus, snowflake rolls or mashed potatoes (or let us be honest, the chocolate rabbits), everyone has a favorite dish that is eaten on Sunday. Divide up tasks and dishes among members of your household. Young ones can set the table, while adults peel potatoes and carve the roast meat. Go around the table and have each member say for what they are most grateful. Savor and enjoy a meal together. Looking for menu ideas, download a Recipe App to give you inspiration.
Go on an Egg Hunt
It may not be safe to participate in a traditional egg hunt this year, but people sheltering in place can hide plastic or hard boiled eggs on their lawn or inside for others to find. Get in on the fun beforehand by filling each with small prizes, or by decorating them with stickers or colorful designs. Have one person hid the eggs while the others search. The person who finds the most eggs could win candy or another small token.
Take a Stroll
Just because you are practicing social distancing does not mean that you have to stay inside. Go out for a short walk around the block or in a scenic area close to home, if allowed by your hometown and or state. Be mindful of others and stay six feet apart from anyone outside your household. Wear masks if appropriate. Take time to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather.
Have a Movie Night
Once the meal is done and all of the eggs have been found, make time for a movie night. Get the kids in on the action by letting them choose what to watch, pop some popcorn, and cozy up with warm blankets. Turn it into an event by watching multiple parts of a series, or make gourmet popcorn. Mix in butter, cheese, chocolate or various candies for a decadent treat. To keep up with the theme of the day, choose a flick related to families, rabbits or having faith.
We wish you a joyous holiday with your family. Stay safe, be well and keep good Health.
