We just love our pets, don’t we? Our furry family members add so much to our lives; from constant companionship to unconditional love and a few laughs, they quickly occupy a large space in our hearts and seamlessly fit into a richer family life for all.
Paying homage to our beautiful pets National Dress Up Your Pet Day is coming up fast! On January 14, join the thousands of people who choose to celebrate and show their love for their precious pets by dressing them to the nines. As you hunt for high-fashion or trendy costumes, let’s brainstorm to see what other activities can be done when your pet is high styling. Check out this fun list of things to do:
1. Make a truly unique DIY look for your pet Don’t have a lot of cash for a Dolce and Gabbana doggie sweater? Why not construct your own Do It Yourself look to celebrate the day? Your pet can be anything you choose—-a colorful unicorn with a proud sparkly horn, a delectable ice cream cone that looks absolutely adorable moving down the sidewalk, or anything your vast imagination can conceive of.
2. Join a meet up group to celebrate your pets
Guess what? There are plenty of other folks out there who are just gaga over their pets just like you are, and there’s likely to be a local celebration in your area that will cater to the entire furry lot! Look for a meetup group in your area, get all dolled up, and step out to celebrate and bond with other pet owners. Who knows? You may even be able to score a play date for your pet!
3. Practice pet safety and kindness As cute as some of those costumes may be, it is not considered good form to force an animal into any kind of costume if they are resistant to do so. While some pets are relaxed about this sort of thing, others will do everything they can to avoid you on Dress Up Your Pet Day. Respect their preferences, and celebrate them for who they are. That’s what camera filters are for.
4. Design a kicking photo shoot
People dress up their children regularly and celebrate milestones of growth with adorable photo shoots, why not do the same with your pet? Photographers in your area may have a National Pet Day special promotion; do a dry run at home to make sure your desired outfits meet your pet’s approval, then head off to the studio to make the magic happen.
5. Coordinate your outfits
What a perfect opportunity to coordinate outfits for a truly creative and hilarious photo session! Consider matching or complimentary garb such as flower and bumblebee, eggs and bacon, Thing 1 and Thing 2, or any number of amicable characters that can add fun to your day. Now the only question is, who is going to be wearing which costume?
Safety tips for optimal fun!
Remember to let your pet lead the way when designing both costumes and activities. Take these safety tips and suggestions to heart for maximum fun:
Make sure your pet is comfortable and at ease
Avoid costumes with small pieces that can be torn off and swallowed
Ensure that you adhere to all safety protocols if attending a gathering with other pets
Provide time for your pet to adhere to his/her regular schedule of eating, sleeping, and bathroom breaks
Although this activity is designed to be fun for all, it can be a bit stressful for a pet to change up the regular routine. Provide plenty of love and reassurance that all is well, despite the fact that Fido is dressed like a pineapple.
Celebrate your pets this January 14th, and we can’t wait to see your photos!
