The big tech company, Google, has released new updated features for their Andriod Auto users. Each of these features makes it more convenient and safer to use your phone while in the car. These new updates allow users to keep their eyes on the road more and less on their cellphones thanks to voice commands, touchless options, and more accessible features.
Increased Accessibility- Dashboard
With this new update, users will find there is a new dashboard that requires no scrolling! The user will tap the icon of the app they want to open. These are easily found on the home screen when you open the app. On the dashboard, you will find multiple music-streaming apps, apps regularly used, podcasts, and recommendations for services you may enjoy!
When launching the app, the user has an option to select default settings. Here is where you choose the preferred apps that are shown on the screen in your vehicle. Once chosen, these apps will be easily accessible with just a few taps on your screen. Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, has been quoted saying he wants his technology to be “universally accessible and useful.” This new update has ensured just that.
Touchless Features
Users can now command Andriod Auto’s Google Assistant to read texts aloud. This feature allows you to hear and respond to any text using your voice. You can activate Google Assistant at any moment by saying, “Hey Google” or by using a custom activation phrase, if you have chosen one. Google Assistant will also announce incoming or missed phone calls. Google Pay has an advantageous update, as well. Google Pay’s touchless feature is now accepted in over 34,000 gas stations across the United States: including, Exxon/Mobil, Conoco, 76 Stations, and Phillips 66. This update allows contactless payment at the gas pump, reducing the number of germs we spread in our communities. Google Pay is also accepted in multiple businesses around the US such as gas stations and grocery stores.
Entertainment Updates
Game Snacks is a mini-feature in this new update. These are mini-games that can be played while stopped for a short time or while you’re parked in a parking lot. The purpose of these games is to be a burst of fun and help you pass the time. These games will show up on the screen in your vehicle. They are not able to be played while driving, only while you are not in motion.
New Partners
Google Technology will be pre-installed in all upcoming Honda vehicle models. Honda is joining multiple companies like Ford, General Motors, Polestar, Renault, and Volvo in adding Google’s technology, Andriod Auto, in all of their new vehicles starting in 2022. The Polestar 2 and the Volvo XC40 already come with Google Assitant and Andriod Auto installed. Honda plans to only produce and sell electric vehicles by 2040, along with many other big-name car companies. There are concerns about the acceptance of electric vehicles globally, though, so there is still a chance they will produce gas-powered vehicles, as well.
Updated for You
Google Assistant and Android Auto have become essential parts of being in a vehicle to most people. These new updates make driving and traveling more fun and convenient. There are fewer distractions and thanks to the contactless pay, you don’t have to worry about bringing as many germs home from the gas pump. The new dashboard creates a convenient screen where all the apps you use frequently will stay. No scrolling is necessary, making it much easier to find the app you want, and then just tap it.
