In astrology, Chiron is an asteroid that is named after the famous centaur Chiron who in Greek mythology was a healer and teacher. Chiron was wounded by a poisoned arrow and was unfortunately unable to heal himself despite being one of the best healers and teachers around. The Chironic lesson of learning how to heal oneself in order to be of assistance to others is significant. All too often, individuals seek to assist others without doing the necessary work on themselves. Given that the Chiron wound is one that never heals, there is this constant ache and a realization that that something is amiss. Thus, Chiron asks us to seriously consider the parts of us that feel inadequate, and what we need to do for ourselves in order to obtain the healing that is needed.
As an asteroid, Chiron’s placement is significant because it is located between Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is the planet of accountability and responsibility, and Uranus is the planet of freedom and liberation. With Chiron being situated between these two planets, it is essential that we take accountability and responsibility which is represented by Saturn in order to achieve the liberation from our wounds represented by Uranus energy. It is only through combining the energy of these two planets, Saturn and Uranus, that we are capable of achieving the ultimate path of Chiron which is to be the wise teacher that understands how to assist others in healing their own wounds due to having done the work of healing oneself.
The Chiron in Aries Transit
The asteroid Chiron entered the sign of Aries from April 17, 2018, to September 25, 2018. Aries then retrograded into the sign of Pisces from September 25, 2018, to February 17, 2019, to wrap up the lessons associated with Chiron in Pisces. From February 17, 2019, through April 14, 2027, Chiron will transit Aries steadily. Chiron will head into Taurus for a brief trip from June 19, 2026, to September 18, 2026. Chiron will wrap up its transit through Aries from September 18, 2026, to April 14, 2027.
With Chiron in the sign of Aries, we are all urged to genuinely consider the woundedness that is associated with who we are as individuals. This is about no one else but ourselves. As the first sign, Aries represents being born into this physical experience. There is an urgency for the human experience under the sign Aries, and this includes the creation of a self.
However, when the Aries archetype feels wounded, there is this innate feeling of unworthiness associated with the personal identity. Remember, the first house in Aries represents how we present to the world. The ascendant which is the entry point into this experience marks the beginning of the first house and the experience of being physically born. Thus, with Aries in Chiron, there could be this deep sense of woundedness around why we were even born in the first place.
Those with Chiron in Aries in their natal charts make for individuals who are incredibly strong and resilient. They keep up a good fight even though they are deeply wounded. They may even heal very quickly from their wounds. Thus, there is this lesson associated with Chiron in Aries that prompts us to consider how being willing to identify that we are even wounded in the first place enables us to direct the bold, courageous Aries energy towards achieving the healing that is desired.
When Chiron Goes Retro in Aries
From July 15, 2021, to December 19, 2021, Chiron in Aries goes retrograde. Both individually and collectively, this retrograde offers us all the opportunity to harness the action-oriented energy towards our own self-healing. As a fire sign, Aries is pioneering and action-oriented. Thus, during this retrograde, there is the opportunity for us to do the inner work to acknowledge our own wounds and take the necessary steps once and for all to heal ourselves
In fact, some of us may be feeling a bit impatient with these feelings of worthlessness. We may want to finally “get over this already.” The Martian energy associated with Aries may have us rushing for solutions for our Chironic wounds. This retrograde is an excellent time to finally stop mulling over the woundedness and get serious about addressing it. Whether we seek therapy, utilize some form of physical exercise such as martial arts that helps release the anger and angst associated with the wounds, the decision to become one of the first in the family to address generational trauma. There are so many different ways that Aries energy can be used to help us address our wounds.
We are all encouraged to take advantage of Chiron retrograde in Aries as we are given an opportunity to truly consider why we feel wounded in this experience. What is it about us that feels wrong or bad? What is it about our identities that make us feel less than worthy? Hopefully, Chiron’s retrograde in Aries allows us all to explore these questions and then seek action to achieve healing.
Healing Comes from the Self
Finally, Chiron in Aries retrograde reminds us that healing has to come from ourselves. All too often, we try to escape our feelings of inadequacy through others. We think that if we have the “right material” things and/or the “right people” that we will no longer feel less than. However, Chiron in Aries reminds us that we each have our own wounds that can only be healed by initiating concrete action on our own. While other people can be of assistance on our healing journeys, ultimately, under the energy of Chiron in Aries, it is up to us to be the pioneers in our healing. By taking action for our self-healing, we have the potential of becoming the wise wounded healer that has the ability to help others with their own healing from an informed place of wisdom and lived experience.
