DisneyWorld is easily one of the most popular tourist attractions for families in the world. Since its inception in 1971, millions of people have flocked through its gates in anticipation of magic moments, precious memories, and fantastic stories to tell. With all of the magical and memorable experiences that have taken place here, there are bound to be a few unsavory stories that would cause you to reconsider spending time there. Virtual Navigation: The Gold Standard For Seeing The Parks
These days, navigation of the parks is almost impossible without some kind of smart device. The Disney MagicBand has visitors breezing through their vacations with few worries and convenient access to all itinerary experiences. With a third version of the Band now rolling out called the MagicBand+, several new interactive features promised an even better experience for families. Unfortunately, that’s not the way things went down in Disney.
All experiences link up to a “My Disney Experience” itinerary as you enjoy parks, gain entrance to several parks, and make purchases on your account. MagicBand+ was designed to offer newer designs featuring favorite characters, customizing the wearer’s experience around facets of that character. Star Wars fans, for instance, could play the part of a Bounty Hunter as they visit Galaxy’s Edge, searching for virtual bounties hidden around Bantuu. Each experience ties in with the Band’s newest features by vibrating when experiences are near.
More Money, More Problems
With an increased cost for innovative technology, these limited edition designs look good on paper, but those who paid the extra upfront cost were quite upset at the fact that the rollout was completely and utterly “Goofed”.
Problems With MagicBand+ Technology
Some park visitors need to do Disney on a budget, which is not easy, but it’s possible with a bit of creativity. Bands used to be free to visitors who purchased resort packages, but now inflated costs include a small fee for band use. Even so, families coughed up the additional price, knowing just how useful the technology could be.
MagicBand+ is supposed to come fully charged right out of the box, but some customers found that their devices didn’t have enough juice to make it a full day through the parks. As Disney parks are infamous for not being able to provide enough charging stations for their guests, families were forced to purchase portable batteries and be mindful of charging them between park visits. Try explaining the need to stop and charge something to a tired five-year-old.
As if these issues weren’t bad enough, the MagicBand+ was met with such enthusiasm that Disney is falling behind on its supply, meaning that guests will not be receiving the Bands in time for their vacations. Band blunders galore are forcing Disney customers to pivot as they salvage their experience with technology that they can find in the park.
With the Disney experience being less than gold for some, consumer outcry for change is demanding attention from Disney officials. Park officials, step it up and get your technology en pointe so you can keep your stellar reputation as “the best theme park in the world” for yet another season.
