From November 2018 to May 2020, the North Node transits through the nurturing, home-loving sign of Cancer. The lunar nodes are not planets but rather points that mark the crossing of the moon’s orbit with the ecliptic path which is the sun’s path around the Earth. There are two points which include the north node and the south node. The north represents the soul’s path forward whereas the south node represents past life experiences as well as traits and characteristics that hold us back from moving forward. The north node transits through each sign for about a year and a half.
The North Node in Cancer Transit
Since the north node represents the soul’s path forward, it is important to consciously integrate the insights this transit provides. Currently, we are nearing the end of the Cancer North Node transit. Ruled by the moon, the Cancer North node calls for us to consider topics related to women, motherhood, home, and nurturing. It is a time where acknowledging emotions is encouraged. Oftentimes when people think of Cancer energy they envision being loved by mom, a welcoming home, home-cooked meals, and even a shoulder to cry on if needed. There is a sense of caring and security that Cancer-ruled individuals are known for possessing.
However, as with all energy, there is another side to Cancer. Harsh aspects from planets such as Mars or Saturn to Cancer moon energy can create issues such as abandonment, feeling unloved and neglected, an inability to process emotions, and emotional manipulation. When someone with Cancer energy feels threatened, they are likely to either crawl in their shell for protection or strike out in defense.
The Cancer North Node transit calls for people as a collective to consider how the Cancerian themes of home, mother, security, and nurturing play out in our lives. For those who were born with the North Node in Cancer, this is an especially important time as these individuals are experiencing their nodal return which is a pivotal time of learning to embrace and integrate Cancer attributes to achieve soul progression.

Lessons from the Moon and Saturn
With the Cancer North Node transit comes soul growth through embodying the nurturing guidance of moon energy and the structured lessons from the Capricorn South Node. This transit required many of us to release the overworking, standoffish, achievement-seeking, status-driven life for the warmth and comfort of home. While Capricorn seeks success in the outside world, Cancer energy craves the comfort and security of the familiar home environment. In alignment with the Cancer North Node energy, many were called home for a variety of reasons. Some people became caregivers to aging parents. Some women chose to finally embrace motherhood after years of climbing up the corporate ladder. Others decided to start their home-based businesses combining the desire to work (Capricorn) with the comfort of home (Cancer).
As a water sign, Cancer energy is in touch with its emotional nature. However, with the south node in Capricorn, there is a tendency to avoid emotional displays as they are erroneously viewed as a sign of weakness. This often creates a hard, cold personality that may feel deeply but cannot express emotions. The Cancer North Node transit urged us to feel for once. Although Saturn energy may ask us to “toughen up,” moon energy makes space for people to be vulnerable. This transit taught many of us that tapping into the emotional nature and having a good cry or two with a trusted confidant is more than okay.
Home is Always With You
One of the ultimate experiences of the Cancer North Node transit is the recognition that we all want someplace to call home. Every day, people across the world get up and go “out there” in the world to gain success. However, at the end of it all, there is no place quite like home. For some of us, going home is a beautiful experience where there is the familiarity of the family unit and caring and nurturing abounds. For others, we were faced with unsettled roots, abandonment issues, and having to grow up too fast. In some cases, we even had to learn to be a mother to ourselves because perhaps our own mothers were not able, willing or capable of doing so.
No matter which experience we had, Cancer’s zodiac symbol, the crab, has an important lesson to teach us. The crab carries it’s home with it everywhere it goes. Its shell is always there to provide shelter, protection, and a safe place to retreat. In the end, we all are first and foremost at home within ourselves.
Ultimately, the Cancer North Node transit encouraged us to tap into our deep emotional reservoirs to find our way back home to ourselves. It is only through going home to ourselves are we truly able to achieve the success desired out there in the world
