Carpet accounts for more than half the flooring in the United States. All that carpet must be vacuumed, which is something that can consume hours of your schedule each week. To save time, many people these days are investing in robotic vacuums. However, choosing a robot vacuum isn’t as easy as picking out a manual vacuum cleaner. To find the best one for your home, you’ll need to keep the following things in mind.
#1. Size

Some vacuums are designed for smaller apartments or cabins, while others can clean larger homes. As such, the size of your home will play a major role in the model you choose. Consider the amount of floor space you need swept, and don’t forget to include stairs and hallways in your measurements. You should also think about the amount of space you have underneath beds and dressers so you don’t wind up buying one that is too tall.
#2. Wi-Fi Capabilities
How do you wish to control your vacuum? Would you rather use a remote control or do you prefer to download an app? Many people find it very convenient to control their robotic cleaner with an app; however, models with Wi-Fi capabilities do have a higher price tag. So you will have to decide whether or not the added convenience is worth it.
#3. Auto Scheduling Features
Even if you control your appliance remotely, you may still want to schedule your cleanings for certain times. If that’s the case, choose a vacuum with an auto scheduling feature. This will allow you to choose a frequency such as daily or weekly, and then schedule a time for vacuuming to take place. If you’re having company over and need an extra pass-through you can auto schedule that as well.
#4. Suction Power
You’ll need a vacuum with more suction power if you have pets or plan to clean multiple types of flooring surfaces. To determine suction power, look for models with a higher airflow and water lift capacity. More powerful units also have sturdier brush heads along with fairly large openings for sucking in dirt.
#4. Battery Life
Robotic vacuums must return to their docking station whenever their batteries get low. Accordingly, your machine may not be able to finish its work if it has a very low battery capacity. On the other hand, having way more than you need really doesn’t serve any benefit either. Most users find that a run time of around 90 minutes or so is enough for vacuuming an entire house.
A robot vacuum can be a great investment so long as you choose wisely. Keep the above things in mind and finding the right model for you home can be easy.
