If you’ve been a Facebook user between 2007 and 2022, you might be eligible for a share of the $725 million settlement that Meta, Facebook’s parent company, is paying to settle a class-action lawsuit due to privacy violations.

In 2018, it was revealed that up to 87 million people’s information had been shared to Cambridge Analytica, a third-party firm used by the Trump campaign.
This discovery led to public backlash and ultimately resulted in government investigations into Facebook’s privacy policies.
Although Meta has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to the settlement, stating that it’s in the best interest of its community and shareholders, and that it has updated its approach to privacy.
How Much Money Will I Get?
Between 250 million and 280 million people could be eligible to receive part of the settlement, but it’s unclear how much money each person could get.
A good portion will likely be going to attorney fees and other costs, and the rest of the payments to eligible users will depend on the number of users who file with valid claims.
When Will I Get Paid?
Provided you decide to file, you won’t be getting your money right away.
A final approval hearing is set for September 7th, 2023, but there may also be more appeals filed afterward, so the earliest you could see some payment is later this year. And it may not even be that early.
How to File a Claim?
If you decide to file a claim, you can do so on the claim website or by mailing it to this address: Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation, c/o Settlement Administrator, 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Note that you must file before August 25, 2023 to be eligible.
Should I File?
There’s no harm in filing, but it’s also completely up to you whether to file a claim or not. You can also opt out, which would be beneficial for individuals who want to sue the company separately. To do so, you’ll need to fill out an online form or mail it in before July 26th, 2023.
If you decide not to do anything, you surrender your right to file a lawsuit against Facebook and won’t get any money.
