Everyone’s priority list looks different, but they all have the same priority that makes the top of the list each year: money. Whether you’re in debt, find yourself spending too much, unable to save or budget or just don’t have enough of it, there is one way to ensure that you can kill two birds with one stone. Most homes have tons of clutter and not enough money.
First, you need to determine how much stuff you own and how it needs to be priced based on how old and used it may be. Is it broken? Damaged? If so, you might want to consider either fixing it up prior to selling it or mark it at a lower price. Many people are known for obtaining free items to fix just so they can sell them, which is another way to go about doing this. It also leads to hoarding, which nobody wants. Below are several things you can sell to help make more space in your home while making a profile at the same time.
Books
There are hundreds of thousands of readers in the world who cannot have enough books. Their addiction to reading may be your ticket to some easy money. If you have books that are in decent shape and you don’t read them, sell them. College and educational textbooks particularly make the most money considering the fact that schools gauge students when it comes to learning. I wouldn’t recommend pricing them too high, but definitely try to make a profit if you still have textbooks that are in good shape.
Movies
There’s not a single person on this planet that doesn’t love to watch movies. New movies, old movies, someone is bound to buy them from you. Assess the movies beforehand to make sure there aren’t any scratches on them first. If it doesn’t come with a case, you can either use an old CD case, or make one out of a sheet of printing paper, but you might have to mark it at a lower price. There is always going to be a movie buff out there waiting for a deal like the one you’re about to make. (Trust me, I’m one of them!)
Clothes
Closets and dressers are always filled to the brim with clothes, and they are almost always clothes you never wear. That shirt you haven’t seen in two years and still in perfect condition? Sell. Those pants that have been too big for you since you started eating healthier five years ago? Sell. You are doing yourself, your home and your wallet a huge favor.
Hangers
Yes, hangers can be sold. After you have sold many of your clothes, you may be left with a ton of empty hangers. Maybe the person who purchased all of your old clothes will buy the hangers off of you too. You never know, but empty hangers can be annoying and are not the best thing to look at when you open your closet.
Fabric
Many people enjoy sewing as a hobby. Unfortunately, many people have a horrible habit of collecting too much fabric (guilty!) Most people keep it in bins stuffed in a corner or in the back of their closet. Sell it. Give someone else the opportunity you couldn’t find to create something useful and beautiful. Who knows? Maybe one day, you’ll go online to find that the hottest new trends were made out of the same old flower patterned fabric you sold to someone else!
Toys
When your children grow up, their toys should go to other kids who may not have as many of them or whose parents cannot afford those high end prices. If it’s around the holidays, this is the perfect time to not only make space for more toys, but also a great time to provide other families with gifting toys to their own kids too. As long as they are in decent shape, aren’t missing any pieces and still work, they are perfectly fine to sell.
Cardboard Boxes
Yes. You read this correctly and it is not a typo. You would be shocked to know how many people buy cardboard boxes for various things. People need them to move, store items or create fun projects for their kids. If you have an overabundance of cardboard boxes, look into selling them. All they do is take up space anyway, right?
Appliances
Did you finally get that fancy coffee maker you always wanted for your birthday? That’s really cool, but what are you going to do with the old one? If it still works and runs smoothly, sell it to someone who might have just moved. College graduates looking for a place of their own could really use it. The same goes for other appliances like a washing machine or vacuum cleaner.
Old Gift Cards
Did you get a gift card you know you’re never going to use anytime soon? Maybe you got one for a store you have never even heard of before and have no intention of ever visiting. I guarantee you there is someone out there who will buy that gift card from you. Make their day and sell it to them. You now have more room in your wallet.
Arts & Crafts Supplies
You can buy many items like glue guns and tape for cheap at the store, but what about things like actual materials? When bought in bulk, it can get pretty expensive. If you already have materials that you collected over the years and have hardly touched, sell them to someone who may be starting a major art project. They will be thankful for the price cut and your wallet will thank you too.
All the things that you didn’t realize you could sell are right there in your own home. We all struggle with a lack of money at some point in time, so why not try to make it easier on yourself? Make room and earn as much as you can! All these items can be sold on Decluttr and the more unique they appear in searches, the more likely you will be to sell them!
