The Boring Company, which is run by Elon Musk, may have some new clients in Sin City very soon. Two casinos in Las Vegas are looking to work with Musk and his company to build tunnels below the city to get guests quickly from one place to another.
The Boring Company already made an announcement this past May that digging had been completed underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). The convention center already hosts millions of tourists each year and is quite large in size. The shuttles will move conference attendees quite quickly in unique Tesla vehicles. This project is said to have a tentative opening date of January 2021.

Since this announcement, Wynn Resorts publicly stated it would be working with The Boring Company on another tunnel to easily connect the flagship Wynn hotel and the Encore to each other. Both hotels have more than 2,000 rooms and a number of other frequently visited amenities. In Wynn’s press release, the company mentions that Tesla vehicles will transport people from each resort in just 2 minutes. The two hotels are about a half a mile apart and would regularly take about 15 minutes to walk from one to another.
Wynn are not the only hotel chain looking for The Boring Company’s help. Resorts World is also looking for a partnership, and will feature over 3,500 rooms. In addition, the hotel includes a large casino and 5,000 seat theater. This project would link this hotel to the LVCC in a similar fashion as the other projects. This tunnel would also be about a half a mile long. Both of these proposals feature platforms that are accessible to passengers above the ground. Like Wynn, Resorts World submitted a proposal to Clark County for this project to begin.
Having the LVCC serve as a central hub for transportation is important because it is planning a massive expansion project that will total nearly one billion dollars. In addition, the LVCC will add a 600,000 square foot exhibition hall to the already existing convention center. The venue already hosts some of the largest events in the country like the Consumer Electronics Show.
Both hotel companies are in the middle of negotiating the exact terms on how the deal with The Boring Company will take place. Neither company has given any concrete numbers on the costs, but the current project known as the Convention Center Loop already underway is said to cost more than $50 million. This project is funded by the public and will be free for passengers. However, the two new proposed routes would cost money for passengers to use with estimates saying a trip would cost $3 to $5.
While this is still early in the process, there should be fairly frequent updates as the various companies involved move forward. The Boring Company have already mentioned the idea of expanding the underground system in Sin City and even connecting as far as Los Angeles. However, nothing formal has been agreed upon and officials have yet to agree to anything on a large scale.
The initial deal to create the Convention Center Loop is a major landmark for Musk’s company as it is their first paying contract. Finally, The Boring Company finished a test tunnel close to its base in Hawthorne, CA. There are several other projects in addition to this one, including the Chicago Express Loop and the East Coast Loop between Baltimore and Washington D.C.
The need for a way to quickly get from one place to another in Sin City is definitely felt, especially in the heat of summer. Temperatures can frequently be higher than 100 degrees, and getting people to and from the different casinos as quickly as possible is certainly appealing to nearby businesses. There will inevitably be a great deal of construction in the coming months, so be sure to keep an eye on things if you plan to visit anytime soon.
