Expressing Your Gratitude to God

3 Mins read

The time surrounding the holidays is a fitting opportunity to pause and reflect on those things in which you are grateful.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Here are five Scripture reminders of God’s character in which you can be grateful along with five verses showing ways you can express your gratitude.

5 Things to Be Grateful For

1. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

This passage offers a promise to you, as one who loves God. Some days or even seasons of your life may be full of struggle. Being a Christian does not eliminate hardship from your life.

Here, you see the promise that God will use all of your experiences and work them out to an end result for your good and that glorifies Him.

2. “Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 106:1

God’s goodness and His love for you will never come to an end.

No matter what you see in this world, you can rest assured that God is in control and He is working in your life out of His never-ending love.

3. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” Hebrews 12:28

Just as God’s love for you is eternal, so is His kingdom.

The earth on which you live while in your physical body is full of evil. Sometimes it may seem that Satan has the upper hand. This, however, is only a temporary state.

God’s kingdom is eternal and will be triumphant over sin, death and all evil.

You can be grateful that as a child of God, you are a citizen of His victorious kingdom.

4. ” But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” Psalm 13:5

Ultimately, your salvation is the most precious gift that God has given you.

The fact that God was willing to sacrifice His only Son, just so you can live in fellowship with Him, is certainly worthy of your praise.

5. “You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.” Psalm 4:7

Your heart can be full of joy because of God’s love and goodness towards you.

In good times and in tough times, you can still find joy in God’s faithfulness. Joy in knowing that He is with you and will never forsake you.

Scripture shows us these five reasons to be thankful to God—and many more—but it also shows us ways to express our gratitude.

5 Ways to Praise God

1. ” I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1

You’ve heard the saying, “Count your blessings”, right? By remembering and telling others about all the ways God has blessed you, you are giving glory, honor and praise to He who deserves it above all others.

2. “I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30

When you think of praise and giving thanks, you probably think of singing. This makes sense when you consider how often in the Bible we see song as an expression of praise.

King David and Miriam sang praises. In Acts chapter 16, you see that even Paul and Silas sang while they were in prison.

Singing enables your spirit to commune with God’s, it strengthens and encourage you, and it is an outward expression of praise that others can see and join.

3. “Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!” 1 Chronicles 16:8

Telling others of the ways that God has blessed you and worked in your life is a form of praise. This not only serves as a witness to those who don’t know God as Father, but also as an opportunity for others to participate in praise with you.

4. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

God invites you to commune with him through prayer to express your gratitude as well as ask for the things you need.

He encourages you to exchange your anxiety and concerns for a position of prayer and thanksgiving.

There nothing that He cannot handle and no good thing that He would withhold from you.

5. “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!” Psalm 103:1

When you praise God, you should do so with all of you. All that is within you.

God desires whole-hearted praise and worship from you. You can do so in complete joy considering the many blessings that He has given you

No matter the date, whether it’s a holiday or not, God is worthy of your worship. Singing out to Him or lifting your hands in prayer, your Heavenly Father relishes your praise.
