The highest daily COVID-19 infections arrive close to the election as few states handle the virus in a way that lowers infection rates.
The promise of President Donald Trump to provide a vaccine against the threat of COVID-19 by the tie of the Presidential election has led to one of the closest races in recent memory. President Trump and his challenger, former Vice President Joe Biden, have taken differing approaches to the threat of Coronavirus at a time when the infection rate is climbing at an alarming rate.

The highest daily infection totals for the virus in the U.S. have all come after October 29 culminating in the highest infection totals since the outbreak began in the U.S. occurring on the day of the 2020 Presidential election.
Across the U.S., there are few positives to be found as the battle against Coronavirus has become a political hot potato. As President Trump threatened to fire Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the world’s leading infectious disease experts from the COVID-19 task force on the campaign trail, the global Coronavirus situation has taken a turn for the worse. In the U.K., the infection rate has risen so quickly in the last few weeks that the principality of Wales imposed a strict period of isolation on its citizens. England is due to enter a national lockdown on Thursday as both Italy and France brought in strict new regulations regarding social interactions because of COVID-19.
In the U.S., the promise of a vaccine is one of the main problems facing President Donald Trump as he battles for control of the U.S. Government in the face of the challenge from Joe Biden. The seven-day average for a new infection to November 4 rose to over 89,000 new cases. The highest rate of new infections climbed to over 90,000 for the first time since the first wave of the virus struck on November 3, the day of the Presidential elections. The 90,000 new infections came at a time when the U.S. was voting for the position of President in an election where Coronavirus played a key role in the decisions regarding who would win the election. Exit polls from the election revealed the virus has played a key role in the thought processes of many voters with one in six voters stating this was a key issue for them.
The approach of the two candidates has highlighted the controversy over the handling of the pandemic by the Trump administration as a conflict emerged between the Government and the scientific community. The calls to fire Dr. Fauci that came at rallies held on the campaign trail by President Trump showed the deep mistrust for the scientific community that has developed over the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Numbers on election day and the previous week was the highest rates of infection seen in the U.S. since September when the rate of infection hit its previous peak. Perhaps the biggest difference between the campaigns of President Trump and Vice President Biden has been the use of face masks to protect from the virus for those close to the candidates.
There are few success stories to report when it comes to the battle over the Coronavirus as it continues to push through the U.S. and the death toll standing at more than 233,000. As the death toll continues to rise, there are five states where the rate of infection has begun to fall because of the restrictions placed on these communities by state officials. Included in this list is Alabama, which saw the largest fall in the infection rate of 3,852 over the last week. The second-largest fall came in Tennessee where the rate of infection was slashed to bring about a fall of 3,528 over the last seven days. Outside of Alabama and Tennessee, there was no single state where the fall in the rate of infection fell by more than 2,000. The three largest falls in the rate of infection came in Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Arkansas where the levels of infection ranged from 1,392 to 1,829.
Some of the figures that are coming out of the five states where the infection rate fell do not all make for enjoyable reading. The state of Alabama may have seen a fall in the rate of infection over the last seven days to just 9,429 cases, but the number of deaths continues to rise in the state. This statistic has risen with 95 new deaths over the last seven days, eight more deaths than were seen the week before. The death rate in Alabama is another sobering statistic with this rising to 1.5 percent.
The battle for The White House may have changed the way the people of the U.S. are thinking about their political future, but the focus for many is remaining on Coronavirus infections throughout the U.S. The Presidential election may have pushed many to ignore the latest news about the reemergence of COVID-19 around the world, but as the dust settled on the election the focus will again return to the battle over the pandemic.
