Almighty and Everlasting God – A Source of Hope in a Crazy World

3 Mins read

The stress of this world can be overwhelming. There is political tension, disease, racism, unemployment, and controversial ideas on morality. But at the end of the day, believers rest assured knowing that this is not their home. The Lord has a Heaven waiting for those who believe. It is a paradise where there is no more war or pain (Revelation 7:15-17). This offers hope for us to push on through the imperfections of this world and do our parts to show that light of peace to others. In the interim, though, life can be hard. Internal peace comes from the fact that our Father is almighty, and He is everlasting.

Our God is Almighty

There is no problem that you can imagine that is more powerful than the Lord. He is above all things. From speaking the world into creation in Genesis to defeating Satan in Revelation, He is in control. The Bible gives us some amazing stories to illustrate the Lord’s omnipotence.

  • He defies age – The Lord blessed Abraham and Sarah with a son, Isaac. His name means “laughter” because Sarah thought she was barren only to give birth at the age of 89! The Lord says to Abraham, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14, New King James Version).
  • Wild animals obey Him – The Lord used seemingly insignificant animals such as flies to create plagues. Although He could use them to devastate the Egyptians, He could also cause them to cease their flight in front of His people of Goshen (Exodus 8:20-24). He shut the mouths of lions to protect His servant Daniel (Daniel 6:21-24). He brought a giant whale to swallow Jonah and forced it to spew him to dry land three days later (Jonah 1:17-2:10). The prophet Isaiah describes Christ’s return when all of nature will live in peace: the wolf and the lamb lying together (Isaiah 11:6-9). He is so powerful that even animals listen to His voice.
  • He commands the wind and the waves – The Lord sent the great flood (Genesis 7), turned all of Egypt’s water to blood and back again (Exodus 7), parted the sea for Moses (Exodus 14), walked on the water (Matthew 14), and calmed the storm and the sea (Mark 4).
  • He gives and takes away – The Lord blessed Samson with incredible power with which he could do good things. When Samson became proud, though, the Lord just as easily took his power away. After repentance, Samson asked the Lord to grant him power once more. The Lord gave Samson such strength that he caused an entire building to crumble and kill the Philistines within just by leaning on a pillar (Judges 16).
  • He conquers sin and death – He sent His Son to live with us. During that time, Jesus performed miracles such as raising the dead to life (Luke 7). He died for us so that sin may no longer have control over us, and we may have eternal life (John 3:16).

A God who can perform all these incredible tasks surely can handle the stress of your job, the heat of your emotions, or whatever burden you bear. Turn to Him and He will hear you because He is bigger than anything you give Him.

Our God is Everlasting

These are only a small portion of the miraculous ways in which our Lord works. The Bible contains 66 books. Each is full of examples of God’s power and might. What’s possibly even more amazing, though, is His endurance. His power is unending. Even the greatest athlete tires at some point, but our Lord is the alpha and the omega – the beginning and the end (Revelation 21:6). He will never leave you (Deuteronomy 31:6). He will always fight for you and for goodness even when you grow weary.

Prayer

Almighty and Everlasting Lord,

I am in awe at Your great might. You shut the mouths of lions, move waters to make a safe path, and bring the dead to life again. There is nothing You can’t do. I take you as my personal Lord and Savior. I give You my life. Use me as Your servant to do Your will. Teach me in the ways of righteousness. I submit to You for Your ways are good and holy.

In Jesus’ name I pray.

Amen
